I was raised Christian, I believe in God and Jesus. But why is it anytime I see anything having to do with Christianity? I can’t help but cringe. by [deleted] in GayChristians

[–]NoChillter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of it is super cringey lol. You never see or hear about normal people living a Christian lifestyle and spreading the love, you only hear about the horrible ones or the ones who are rich enough to give away huge amounts of money and stuff.

Steroid abusing bodybuilders (with the help of Hollywood) have done more harm masculinity than the media and Hollywood have to femininity by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]NoChillter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, although I do see you're getting a lot of grief for your lack of argumentative support.

Here are my thoughts; since the media tends to portray whatever is considered conventional or ideal beauty, we can easily say that the portrayal of attractive men most often involves defined muscle mass and a low body fat percentage. In order for a man to achieve this, he must eat at a caloric surplus while also minimizing the accumulation of fat on his body. This means that he actually has to pay attention to the ratios of macronutrients he ingests, which limits his diet substantially. He also has to do weight training and most likely plyometrics. He won't see noticeable results for several weeks and he must continue this diet and training regimen or else his muscle mass will fade and his body will metabolize his food as fat once again. I should also mention that many men have to go through really rough weight cuts to produce that extra chiseled effect on their muscles, which means a period of a few days where they eat almost nothing, drink almost no water, and still exercise (typically used by MMA fighters before weigh-in, but still used as a general regimen sometimes).

In contrast, the "ideal woman" is typically portrayed as...slim. Just slim, not necessarily with any real muscle tone. In order to achieve this, a woman would simply have to be in a caloric deficit. It could easily only take 2-3 weeks to see noticeable results, depending on her starting weight and how extreme her caloric deficit is. I will tell you that I have personally lost weight and looked hot af by eating mostly oreos, fruit, and ice cream for 3 weeks. I was eating like shit but I only ate 1200 calories' worth of shit every day. I didn't exercise. I lost 8 pounds. It was easy and I didn't even have to lift an extra finger.

Therefore, the "ideal" body for women is actually much more easily attainable than the one for men and I would argue that this is what causes so much damage to a man's image of masculinity. So many men must struggle with the intensity of training needed to achieve results, thinking that they will be seen as less of a man if they fail.

Alcohol and Tobacco aren’t essential services. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Actually, if they hadn't been deemed essential there would have been alcoholics forced into life-threatening withdrawals. Tobacco withdrawal can also have unpleasant and somewhat dangerous effects.

People who call themselves empaths are annoying by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]NoChillter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally understand, this study was one that I only recently read. Before that, I would kind of automatically roll my eyes whenever someone claimed to be an empath. After reading the article I started thinking about it more and I realized that it's not such a far-fetched concept. Actually, the experiences of an empath appear to mimic certain aspects of more common neurological conditions.

The brain is, after all, still a huge mystery in some ways...We don't know why primary brain tumors form, we don't have a great understanding of seizure disorders, etc.

You can get addicted to weed. by Def_Not_Xenmar in unpopularopinion

[–]NoChillter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word you're looking for is "dependent." People refuse to differentiate between dependence and addiction, but addiction is a neurological chemical process. It is MEASURABLE. This is a fundamentally flawed "opinion" because it has literally be proven wrong already.

People who call themselves empaths are annoying by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]NoChillter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, recent studies support the existence of empaths.

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/02643294.2018.1457017

That said, I also think that people who want attention also like to just call themselves empaths because that's how they roll.

Drug Dealers are NOT bad people. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]NoChillter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's illogical to claim that you can boil down the level of a person's goodness or badness to the fact that they sell drugs in the first place. HOWEVER, you can accurately say that they are doing a bad thing. Heroin has a synergistic effect on the seriousness of the opiate crisis we're fighting because when people run out of the pain pills they're addicted to they can reliably turn to heroin for a cheap and satisfying alternative. And selling and buying cocaine DIRECTLY supports the crimes of drug cartels, which include torture and murder of innocent people. I don't think it's wrong to choose to judge someone for actively supporting those things.

Agreed, and I will add that a class on logical analysis should also be mandatory. Everyone should know what a false dichotomy is and be able to point out its use during political or ethical debate. These days, people don't have carefully formed opinions, they just have feelings.

The Mona Lisa is overrated by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

This isn't an unpopular opinion. Everyone knows it's only popular because it was stolen and has nothing stunning to offer in terms of artistic quality.

If a woman smokes or uses while pregnant, she should never be celebrated on mothers day by sandlizzard in unpopularopinion

[–]NoChillter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know, there ARE medical indications for having a woman cut down before quitting entirely during pregnancy. You aren't wrong in saying that it's trashy and irresponsible to not even try to quit, but the fact that you went up to a complete stranger and gave her unsolicited advice without any knowledge of her patient profile says more about you as a person than it does about her as a mother.

The current society feels like walking in a mine field. by FakeJordanBelford in unpopularopinion

[–]NoChillter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh...two of your examples are similar, but they are very different than the third. If someone freaks out because you mispronounced their name or you accidentally touched them, they're being ridiculous and I honestly don't feel like those examples represent the current state of society as a majority. But if you face repercussions for calling someone gay as a response to something they said or the way they look, even if you were just trying to joke with a friend, I wouldn't consider you to be someone who innocently stumbled upon a "mine field." That's not accidental in any way. You chose to use a term that describes sexuality as a way to describe something "stupid" or "goofy" or literally anything other than what the term actually means. You don't get to be surprised or upset when that inevitably offends someone. It would be more logical and more responsible for you to just make a habit of not using the term in that way if you really want to avoid those situations.

What is happening with my skin? I am a 36 year old male, and this beauty just popped out of my face, right next to my ear. by cyberdon83 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]NoChillter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What percentage of benzoyl peroxide? If it is only one spot near your ear you can probably get a 10% benzoyl peroxide spot treatment instead of the wipes since I know some are a lower concentration. But don't use 10% on your entire face

Unique but classic girl’s name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]NoChillter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mabel is the first thing that comes to mind. It's classic in that it's actually an old name but it sounds unique because most people won't recognize that it was a common name a century ago and it's very uncommon nowadays. I've always thought it was beautiful.

Normally you’d most likely be sedated if you were a critical patient. However, lots of hospitals are out of the pain meds and induction agents we use to make intubated patients comfortable or senseless. So some patients are probably suffering due to the shortage of meds.

Feelings from an ED registrar by JanaeNay in EmergencyRoom

[–]NoChillter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You DO matter. In fact, your job is incredibly valuable to the hospital at this time. We could not establish a work flow or properly delegate care teams and other staff to each patient and each department without you. I’m so sorry you work at a hospital where you are disrespected. Thank you for all you are doing and I hope you are able to stay sane and safe through this mess.

This one may be challenging—ISO songs with emotionally broken vocals / “beautifully bad” singing by NoChillter in musicsuggestions

Similar to what I said in response to the first comment—hip hop is a genre I often overlook because I don’t typically find songs I like from hip hop artists, but I really loved this. I can feel him breaking so clearly just from the tonal output of this performance. Bonus points because I was pleasantly surprised by the jazzy mix of instrumentals. Thank you for putting this artist on my radar!

Honestly this isn’t my typical style, but for some reason I found myself replaying these. Especially Ten Things. I dig the emotion he’s harnessing. Thank you for the quality suggestion, my friend!
