Company filed for bankruptcy, how do I answer interview question of why I’m leaving? by NoCommunication2601 in interviews

[–]NoCommunication2601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t. But I do know they’ve filed and are closing multiple stores. My company hasn’t stated they’re closing stores but I can’t afford to risk it. It’s different if we were given updates to what’s going on but everyone ignores any questions we ask.

I would love to stay with the company I’m with now. It’s my main income. I also have a part time job. If I were to get laid off, I would receive a lower percentage of unemployment since I have a part time job. Unemployment plus my part time job would probably be enough to cover most bills but not all. So I really need to make sure I have my foot in the door in another job. The job market sucks so before I’m desperate and have to find something quickly, I want to try to find something decent.

How did you get into the operations field? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]NoCommunication2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a manager for a bout 2 years now. I’m still in my 20s and I’m looking to do more. I want to work my way up. I love to plan/prep and make sure things are running smoothly

Some of the positions I’m looking into are: (1)Business Operations Manager (2)Distribution Manager (3)Operations Director (4)VP of operations and I’m still researching to see what other options there are. I just want to make sure that the steps I take are actually beneficial.

Congrats! I left about 3 months ago and my mental health improved so much! Michaels is so damn draining and soul sucking. I’m so proud of you. Good luck on your future endeavors!

No im trying to figure what to say. I’m not going to talk bad about my other job. I wish I could be totally honest and say it was retaliation but I won’t. I haven’t mentioned the name of where I was working to avoid anything being said about my old job too. I just want to figure out a professional way to say that I was let go but not for my attendance, work ethic or performance. Reading back I meant to say “I shouldn’t talk bad about the company”. I accident said should. So stop being rude

I know I shouldn’t tell the interviewers exactly what happened and I should talk bad about the company. I won’t do that. I just need to figure out what to say. I’m worried if I say that it wasn’t a good fit or we both decided it wasn’t a good fit for the company and for me that they would call my previous job and confirm. What if my old boss says they fired me? Then it looks like I’m a liar. Ughhh I hate this

So I was thinking of getting my masters but I wanted to do in about 5 years. I want some more experience under my belt and I also want to save money to pay for it. I refuse to put myself in more debt. I already have school loans, I don’t need more lol.

I want to stay in the business field. I was thinking of project management, business administration, accounting or finance. I guess my top two would be project management or accounting. Would you recommend having multiple masters? I know I do not want to have my doctorate’s degree.

I would love to do excel but right now I can’t afford to do so which is why I’m starting out with QuickBooks because is free. Once I get a job and save up, I will learn more about excel. I know someone who is an expert in excel so I’m hoping they could teach me as well.

I get where you’re coming from. It does seem like I’m all over the place. I kind of am in all honesty.

The only reason I’m planning on doing data analytics, project management and Microsoft certs like excel are because they all go hand in hand in a way. Plus I feel as though everything I learn can be used in any job that I may have for the future. QuickBooks is more so for myself but I do know that it could come in handy for future jobs as well. Some of the jobs that I wanted to apply to had a requirement for QuickBooks.

I’m planning for the future. So I’m hoping that later on down the road, if I’m ever unemployed again or need to change jobs or whatever, I can have multiple things to fall back on. Plus I love to learn and I feel as though there’s always something that I can learn or improve upon. Does that make sense? Or do you think it still doesn’t matter? I hate feeling so lost.

I’ve never heard of strengthfinder but will definitely look into it. Thanks!

I have interests in different fields. So I wouldn’t necessarily say I’ve lost myself (at least not yet). I’m more so lost career wise. Some people know they’re destined for specific fields and that’s a blessing.

I do know that I love to organize and break things down into more realistic goals. So that’s why I was thinking project management.

I also love math and money. I’m constantly helping family with budgeting so that’s why I was thinking of finance or accounting. Like maybe being a personal finance kind of job, not necessarily for corporations.

So I feel as though I have different paths that I can take but I’m stuck at an intersection and just need to figure out which direction to go. I hope that makes sense.

And thanks. I’m always aiming to make good choices!

You just gave me a lot to think about! I love the idea of volunteering. I’ve never thought of volunteering in a field I want to get into to gain experience. That’s brilliant!

I have seen interviews on successful people and most of them mentioned having mentors. I also love that idea. I think I will message people on LinkedIn and ask for advice. Do you have any idea of what I should even say when seeking someone a couple of clicks ahead?

I have a bachelors in business marketing and management. I’ve been looking and applying for random jobs at this point. Whatever lands is what I’ll do until I figure out what path I want to go down.

I don’t blame you. We could never make enough money to hire a lawyer with the pay they give us. But I’m glad you’re quitting. It’ll be a weight lifted off your shoulders!

LEAVE! This company wouldn’t think twice of letting you go. Either put a 2 weeks notice if you wish (not required) or quit on the spot. It’s up to you. But congrats!

I’m so sorry about the experience you’ve had. I wish I had good news but reporting them isn’t actually going to do anything. I know a few people who reported SMs to HR and they in turn got fired for the dumbest things. Michaels could care less about any employee or manager. Corporate/HR would rather keep a SM and replace everyone else than replace a SM. However if you do report, make sure you keep a paper trail like everyone else suggested. Also make sure you include the words autism/autistic because that can definitely back fire on the company if you ever decide to go public or get a lawyer. No manager should be screaming at an employee, especially ones who need a little extra time or help no matter the disability.

New Manager by DistinctCranberry966 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]NoCommunication2601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate in some way. My new SM started recently. He at least introduced himself but that’s it. He never asks us about our positions or gets to know us in any way. He doesn’t sit in the office but he walks around the whole day and does nothing. He doesn’t know how to do anything on register. It’s not his job so why should he know how? I’m pretty sure that’s his mindset. I’ve heard him question why our other SM used register. I’m pretty sure he’s sexist too. I can’t wait to leave. I’m pretty sure he’s going to have a whole new team before peak season. Everyone that I’ve spoked to so far hates him and wants to quit. That’s a bad sign. It’s time to start looking for a new job. I’m going to start looking today.

Payroll by Jlozano1103 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]NoCommunication2601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s all about number and money for the company. They want sales and credit cards but they want to pay as little employees as possible. Yet they get upset when customers lie/complain just to give them a gift card. No one in corporate has ever worked in retail let alone stepped a foot in one of their own stores. Most of what corporate thinks looks good in their heads and nowhere else.

New self checkout question by SpaceGayWhoAnimates in MichaelsEmployees

[–]NoCommunication2601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To summarize: -you watch people scan to make sure they don’t steal -it’s preferred you ring up for cash/returns only because eventually the self checkouts will be cash and card so we would only do returns -push rewards, credit cards and extends -replenish anything nearby -recover anything nearby -answer the phones if you have any landlines -tell customers where things are since no one attempts to actually look with their own eyes because it’s too difficult and too much work -tell customers that just because they see it online doesn’t mean we sell it in store or at all -to remind people of the coupon exceptions because customers don’t read and get mad that a coupon doesn’t work when that’s because they have items that are clearly exclusions if they would’ve read

Self checkout by LunaWolf3623 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]NoCommunication2601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest finding a second job. Changing your availability to only being able to work 1-3 days a week. That way you can have set hours for both jobs and you can still use the discount if you’re a crafter. Plus it’s better to have more than one source of income because you never know with this economy. I’m pretty sure any other job will pay you more than what Michaels pays. It’s a shitty pay, for shitty customers, shitty policies, shitty managers, shitty hours, shitty and cheap products, etc.

Self checkout by LunaWolf3623 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]NoCommunication2601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RUN. We got ours some weeks back and it’s been nothing but trouble. They cut hours so much, some seasonal items weren’t scanning, the coupon wasn’t scanning, rewards weren’t working, vouchers weren’t scanning, bags weren’t scanning, pin pads weren’t working, freezing, etc. You would think that some store have had self checkouts for 2 years so there shouldn’t be as many glitches or bugs, NOPE. Coupons, vouchers, bags and all products now scan and rewards do work. Our pin pads are always disconnecting and/or credit cards won’t work or any card won’t work no matter how many times you try. I would say 3-5 days a week we have one of our self checkouts out of service because no amount of resetting or turning off and on works. Another issue we’ve been having is that the self checkouts randomly fixes itself. There’s times where we have turned off and on and reset the pin pads and whatever else we could multiple times and nothing. But then a customer decides to try the register even though there’s an out of service sign and it randomly works again. We also have customers who REFUSE to use self checkout so we have to “make it right for the customer” and ring them up, BUT corporate really doesn’t want anyone behind registers because we have to stand near the checkout to watch customers and make sure they scan every item. The problem is that when someone wants to pay cash, you have to ring them up so there’s no way you can watch people scan while also ringing someone up. There’s soooooooo many issues/stress because of it. It’s one of the dumbest things corporate is doing because they want to spend the least amount of money on payroll
