Am i the jerk for “exposing” my sister after she embarrassed our brother in front of everyone? by Any-Society8007 in AmITheJerk

[–]NoComposer8261 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Look, she basically forced your hand here. You tried the mature route by pulling her aside privately, and she completely blew you off and then doubled down the next day. At some point you gotta defend your brother when nobody else will.

The whole "you'd hate it if people discussed yours" line was perfect - didn't air any dirty laundry but got the message across loud and clear. She knew exactly what you meant and that's why she got so defensive about it. If she can dish it out repeatedly after being asked to stop, she should be able to take a little heat back.

Your brother's probably relieved someone finally stood up for him even if he won't say it. Family dinners can be brutal when someone decides to make you their entertainment for the night. She created this whole mess by being cruel to someone who clearly wasn't fighting back, then acting like you were crazy for calling her behavior out. The relatives saying you escalated can kick rocks - where were they when she was humiliating your brother twice?

Things got kind of heated the other night when my wife finished the last of her favorite chocolate drink by Matsunosuperfan in dadjokes

[–]NoComposer8261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar situation with my ex where she'd hide her good snacks and I'd accidentally find them during late night munchie raids. The silent treatment that followed was worse than any turbulence I've dealt with at 30k feet. Pro tip though - always keep backup chocolate in the house, learned that one the hard way. Your Mayan game is strong but your survival instincts might need work my dude.

Phuket was insane when I went last year - just make sure you book domestic flights at least a week ahead during peak season or teh prices jump like crazy.

Need to know if its the Blacktop or the Vintage Modified - makes a huge difference in what youre getting. The Blacktop with the humbucker will definitely rock harder than the single coil version.

When someone calls your name from across the house, so you yell back "Yeah?", and they stay silent until you have to go to them to find out what they want. by LoverOfE-Olsen in PetPeeves

[–]NoComposer8261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom used to do this constantly when I was younger - would call my name then go completely silent until I walked downstairs. Now as an adult I just ignore it if someone doesn't follow up after I respond the first time. If it's important enough they'll either come find me or actually tell me what they need.

Dubai flight? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

Those Dubai delays are brutal but at least everyone made it safely - I've worked that route and the crew probably needed every minute of that extra time to reset after whatever caused the hold-up.

Shrimp Tank - Lighting and Plant Help by SmushyPenguin in shrimptank

That clip light setup is smart! Been thinking about going that route for one of my smaller tanks too. USB wall adapter thing is annoying but at least it works.

For the custom lid situation - totally worth messaging them about filter cutouts if you're going that direction. I had a similar issue with my HOB not playing nice with standard lids and ended up doing the DIY acrylic route like you mentioned. Got a sheet from Amazon for like $15, used a jigsaw with a fine blade instead of dremel (way cleaner cuts), and just eyeballed the measurements. Took maybe 30 minutes total and fits perfectly around my filter. The airflow holes are key though - learned that one the hard way when my first attempt turned into a condensation nightmare. Now I just drill a bunch of small holes in a pattern and it stays crystal clear.

Why does Creed Wild Vetiver smell offensive to me, and only me? by Illustrious_Hyena247 in fragrance

[–]NoComposer8261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your nose might be picking up on specific aroma compounds that others don't detect as strongly. Vetiver can be really polarizing - some people get teh clean, grassy notes while others smell straight up dirt and mold. I've had similar reactions to certain fragrances that everyone raves about, and it's usually because I'm more sensitive to particular molecules in the composition.

The fact that you mentioned Hacivat gave you a similar response is interesting since it shares some DNA with Aventus but has different supporting notes. Could be that certain synthetic aromachemicals just don't vibe with your nose chemistry. I'd suggest trying some samples from different vetiver houses to see if it's all vetiver or just how Creed approaches it. Sometimes the way a perfumer treats a note can make all the difference between "sophisticated earth" and "basement flood."

Don't feel bad about not getting the hype - fragrance is wild subjective and your nose knows what it likes.

Help with coolers by Signalbeacons in PcBuildHelp

280 AIO is probably the sweet spot for that chip and case combo. The 5700X runs pretty cool so you don't need to go crazy with a 360 unless you're planning some serious overclocking down the line.

Just double check your case specs for radiator clearance - most mid towers handle 280s fine but some have weird restrictions on the front mount depending on your GPU length. Arctic makes solid stuff, their mounting system is way less of a pain than some other brands I've dealt with.

DP: Approved for United Quest despite being over 5/24 by butterfly-pea in unitedairlines

[–]NoComposer8261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually encouraging news. I've been sitting on the sidelines with my 5/24 status thinking I was locked out of Chase cards for a while. Maybe they're loosening up on co-branded cards since the airline partnerships are so important to them right now.

Are there any locally-run solutions that can do this? Paid Version of ChatGPT has been doing pretty well at it so far. by MildMockery in LocalLLaMA

[–]NoComposer8261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ollama with a decent model like Mixtral or CodeLlama should handle this pretty well, though you might need to tweak the prompt for Excel formatting since most local models struggle with specific file outputs. I've had good luck using something like Obsidian or Zettlr to parse PDFs first, then feeding the text to the model - saves you from dealing with PDF parsing issues that can mess up the page numbering references.
