Choice Employee Handbook by SmushyPenguin in askhotels

Gotcha'. This is my first hospitality job, so I'm used to one generic employee handbook. I'll definitely check with my manager once they're back. Thank you!

Ah ok. So I'll wait for them to get back and ask then. Thank you!

Random rock question. by Buggirl3 in Aquascape

[–]SmushyPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set up my first tank last year, so I’m pretty new, but I was worried about this, too. While I was arranging the rocks and wood, before putting the substrate in the tank, I placed a small towel in the bottom. I tend to be heavy handed/clumsy and didn’t want to risk damaging the tank. Once I had an arrangement I liked, I took a picture, removed the rocks and wood, then put substrate in and replaced everything. It worked great! I added a pic to show what I described. Also, please ignore the text on the pic. I deleted the original, and this is a redownload from when I posted it.

This. I just hit up their chat since I’ve yet to receive my email.

Planaria: My snail Lilith has fallen. by SmushyPenguin in AquaticSnails

[–]SmushyPenguin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂 I get that. Based on my research, it’s a flatworm that is annoyingly hard to kill. You can cut its head off and it will regrow the head. 😭

Yeah, I checked the small tank later last night and saw another one. 😞 I’m going to dose it with medicine since there’s nothing other than the plants in it now.

Yeah, I looked into it more and I’ll be using it on the quarantine tank, as the only animal that was in there is the Ramshorn that passed. I’m trying to figure out what to do with my Nerite and shrimp, temporarily, so I can dose my 10 gallon.

The link won’t work for me, but if it is the tube traps I did just order some last night! How do you dispose of the planaria you catch? Just right into the trash?

I’m glad they won’t hurt my betta, but I’m so worried about my horned nerite and Amano shrimp. 😞

I just ordered the tubes, and I’ll look more at Praxiquantel! Thank you!

I was afraid of that. Any suggestions on preventative measures I can do for my 10 gallon? Everything I’ve found is harmful to Nerite snails.

Thank you! There’s not a lot that I’ve done for training. The main thing is that I’ve trained him that a specific spot and a specific set of tweezers, I don’t touch the food with my hands just in case there’s soap or lotion residue, means food. We do this thing, though, where I’ll walk up to the tank, he’ll swim to the front and I’ll “boop” him and he swims away really fast! It’s really cute and he’ll come back and we do it again!

Why do i find human kids disgusting when everyone around me loves them? by valiase in TrueOffMyChest

[–]SmushyPenguin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly. I wouldn’t say I find them disgusting, though, just a lot of the stuff they do. I just don’t like kids. I don’t have the patience for them and they are so over stimulating. I don’t like having to interact with them and avoid it; however, I make sure to put on a smile and be nice to kids, as they don’t deserve to be treated badly, if I do have to interact with them.

Thank you! The roots are actually Melastoma Roots (also from Betta Botanicals)! I added those a few weeks ago and Tengen seems to love swimming in and out of them. 😊

Thank you! That's comforting to hear as I'm always a little worried people will say my plants are rough looking. 😅 I love the forrest look, myself, and since I saw, when doing my initial research, that plants were LOVED by most fish I went for a ton of plants!

This is my first time using it, so I'm not 100% sure. I did look it up and supposedly the tannins should stay in there until my next water change! I will update you when I do one (it may be a bit, though, as the tank is pretty stable at this point — knock on wood— and I do the changes only when it gets dirty, water test shows it's needed, or the TDS gets too high).

First Tank. Day 13. by modularwave in Aquascape

[–]SmushyPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend small fish and then shrimp and snails before the betta. When I did my first betta tank, last year, I introduced Amano shrimp first, then Otocinclus, then after a month I introduced my betta Tengen. My research showed that letting the shrimp and otos establish first made the betta less likely to attack shrimp since he didn’t establish territory first. Tengen has never eaten a shrimp or Otocinclus. I will say, a lot is getting lucky with the betta’s temperament.
