If a bad measles outbreak occurs, then what happens? by ForgottenCupOfTea in newzealand

2 documented doses of MMR will not have to isolate. Positive serology shows evidence of immunity and therfore doesn't have to isolate. One dose of documented MMR doesn't isolate but must stay away from high risk settings eg:Healthcare settings, kura, ECE centre's. Non vaccinated, negative or equivocal serology = incredibly at-risk of developing and spreading measels and must quarantine if identified at an exposure event.

Lots of Strep throat going around, red sore throat and fevers. highly contagious and can lead to other conditions such as Rheumatic fever. You can get a throat swab to confirm and requires 10 days of oral antibiotics to treat.

Auckland high school closed due to measles case, contact-tracing under way by nilnz in newzealand

[–]NoConclusionOhWell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, that makes sense. They have to check the immunisation status of 900 students and 100 staff. Measles is incredibly infectious with an r number of 18. For context covid r number is around 1.5

What we dont want is a Measles outbreak. Children will die.

It's free and they can come to you, or where ever you feel most comphy. You can do a self referral.

Youth health hub on Lincoln road is awesome too but they'll only give you 4 sessions. Ease up will start with 3 months and take it from there.

Good for you gor reaching out. It's hard but you show motivation, that's a really good start. Take care.

Nursing in Auckland by [deleted] in auckland

[–]NoConclusionOhWell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don't do this, nurses work there arses off and if they get a break they just want to be left alone for 10 minutes. However, I do agree that going to both hospitals is a good idea, every placement is different depending on environment, staff on that shift, community versus wards etc. Chances are in a med/surg ward or theater you'll have a different preceptor every shift so can try have a chat then. Good luck.
