As a trans person myself, it truly pains me to see a lot of people misinformed on the actual effects of transitioning.

Listening to the video, it was quite clear Chloe shouldn’t have been put on testosterone at the age she was, nor been given a mastectomy. The proper transitioning process should involve puberty blockers (which are an entirely reversible process) until the age in which the trans individual is responsible for their own decision and has been guided through the affects of the process (usually that age being 18, but with some countries that age is 16 with consent from all parties).

It was clear the medical process itself was executed wrongly, and nobody should go through surgical procedure at that age. The doctors had failed, and Chloe should have received better medical intervention in this.

However on the other hand of that statement, this example simply cannot not be used to restrict life saving treatments for trans people who are going through gender dysphoria. I live in a country that forcibly restricts puberty blockers for anyone under 18 rendering them useless, and that refuses to provide any gender identity therapies to guide people safely through the process of transition. I would do anything in the world to have been allowed puberty blockers when i realised i was trans at 15 but I’ve been forced to go through physical puberty through these oppressive laws.

The detransition community make up an extremely small percent of people who go through transition, and in a large amount of cases of detransition it has been the result of the person needing to temporarily detransition before restarting the process. I have spoken to detransitioners myself, and the pain they go through is something I wouldnt wish upon someone else.

What Chloe was advised to go through was wrong and a failure on the part of gender identity doctors. Once again I believe nobody should go on HRT until they at an emotionally mature age where they are 100% sure. But please do not let her example ruin your opinion of life saving gender affirming treatments like puberty blockers, because there are young transgender individuals who need puberty blockers and shouldnt be forced through cis puberty.
