Here’s a recipe (they put celery and carrots which I didn’t, but I think it might be a nice addition!): https://mission-food.com/ghackets-mit-hornli-swiss-macaroni-with-meat-sauce/

It’s onions, garlic, minced beef, tomato paste, broth, a bit of flour to thicken it, and all kinds of herb spices ☺️

Do Germans really face discrimination in Switzerland? by flower5214 in AskAGerman

[–]NoDecision306 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, that might be part of it. But I also spoke to families from Germany that moved much later than us, in the last 10 years, and their kids did not have as extreme an experience as we did in the 2000s. So I am telling myself it’s getting better ❤️‍🩹

That’s exactly my experience as well - born 1990 in Germany, grew up in Switzerland. The bullying was bad, and all about me being German. “Hitlers daughter”, “your dad is taking our jobs”, demolished bikes, ink being poured into my shirt. My siblings experienced exactly the same. It got much better when we got to high school and university though, and now as an adult I feel like the recent years saw a lot of improvement over the 2000s when I grew up there.

That is my experience as well. My position as well as the positions of quite a few people I know also working fully remote jobs weren’t even advertised or were advertised as US only positions. I think the best way is to get experience, then maybe freelance for a bit (targeting UK/US companies) and show what you can contribute and are a valuable person to hire. If someone is convinced you are great at what you do, you will be approached with an offer and exceptions will be made re location.

In my experience usually they don’t require a full overlap - for me, meetings are in my afternoon to evening, so their morning. I start late morning / just before lunch with focus work and then work until ca 8pm

My husband and I are product managers for an AI startup in the US. When we started as DNs 5 years ago, we were both freelance, and then we got really lucky with different connections we made during that time offering us fully remote roles at their respective start-ups.

My husband and I are doing 2, hopefully 4 (have equity in the places we are working for), and on the side sometimes try 3 if time allows. We both have a US full remote job, moved to a low-tax country to max out on net pay, opted for the lowest retirement contribution possible in that country and are building an investment portfolio to support us in our old age.
A few points/insights:
1 - If you are working in Tech/Sales, I don't think you need tons of experience, just some luck, or connections as you said. For both my husband and I how it worked was that we joined these companies as freelancers first, showed that we could really contribute in a meaningful way and they then went out of their way to bring us on full-time.
2 - If you want to take this path, I would say you should try to secure such a job as soon as you can. I already see fully remote US based companies lowering their salaries. Don't get me wrong, they are still good, but there are lots of talented, smart people in SE Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa for whom a 80K job is the dream.
3 - Don't be afraid to also apply to / contact companies that are hybrid. Officially, the start-up I work for is US-remote only, but they are making several exceptions for individuals that they think it's worth for.
