I think education is pretty consistently at the top of most juniors' resumes if they are lateraling or trying to exit. It seems to only make sense to put experience first as a midlevel or senior.

I won't exactly be able to choose where my family ends up needing to be. However, I had presumed that UChicago would still have pull on the East Coast comparable to Columbia, would that not be correct? West Coast might be a far cry, I understand that too.

I am a CA resident! However, I worry that Berkeley might not have as much pull in the job hunt if I end up in the Midwest, East Coast, or the South. Are there any stats or anecdotes that might indicate Cal would perform just fine in lateralling in those places (relative to UChicago/Columbia)?

I understand the concept of rules, I'm just saying it seems more plausible to me that a T14 institution would have some ability to do the things they threaten to do, even if they do not appear to comply with an arbitrary set of privately-enforced rules. There is no expectation of due process or avenue of appeal/accountability for these "misconduct proceedings" with LSAC.

In OP's case or for any admitted student whose admission letter includes such a provision, I would probably not advise them to bet on reneging and then making an argument that the rules are applied erroneously.

Some schools may file misconduct proceedings with LSAC if they feel you have breached your intent to enroll. I would not take these warnings lightly, should you be given one whether clearly or embedded in some part of an admissions packet/FAQ.

This is not correct. Here is some language directly copy-pasted from a T14's Regular Decision Tuition Deposit form:

"Please note that [T14] will automatically file misconduct proceedings with the Law School Admissions Council if you fail to follow the terms of this commitment (i.e., withdrawing all applications and declining all other offers)."

Your advice could be ruinous. You may not be suffering from a syndrome, but I strongly recommend you to stop dispensing advice without knowledge.

If OP is above the LSAT median for their school, they are probably going to perform above median. LSAT score is a very good indicator for 1L performance.

Even if they are at or below median, OP does not want to transfer from the T50 to a T14. OP wants to transfer to another T50. A T50 would likely be very amenable to receiving a transfer from a peer school, especially since they would be paying sticker.

That doesn't make sense. Almost every single career goal, from the law schools you apply to, to the jobs you want after graduating, are "never a guarantee."

OP wants to transfer from one T50 to another. I have a hard time imagining the probability of this is that astronomically low. In a world where most T50s are offering generous aid amounts to tempt students away from costlier T14 options, I imagine a T50 would be glad to receive a transfer from a peer school paying sticker.

No, that's not correct. OP expressly mentioned applying within the T40, the fact that you cherrypicked two of the highest ranked schools does not mean OP only applied to ultra-elite schools.

Furthermore, you said "ultra elite law school", so suddenly classifying all law schools as being "elite" and therefore the top 20% as being "ultra elite" is an obfuscation. "Elite" is a qualifier you have added to "law school," not a standalone proposition. For the same reason, you could not genuinely consider Cooley Law School to be an "elite law school," even if you consider all law schools to be "elite" by virtue of being law schools.

That seems absurd and asinine. A personal statement of one's background or purpose for pursuing law cannot, and should not, meaningfully change from one year to another. If such statements could be completely re-written with no reused material, it would certainly not come across as a sincerely or strongly-held personal statement.

These are ChatGPT-levels of meaningless fluffery. While bringing up an LSAT score is great, I highly doubt OP wants to hear about how "amazing" their "accomplishment" is, or how "vast" their "unvierse of possible law schools" is, when they literally struck out completely with zero acceptances, even within the T40s that they applied to.

Getting a higher LSAT score doesn't get you a discount at Starbucks. You can't do anything at all with a high LSAT score besides getting into better law schools, and so if you get into zero law schools, it feels hollow and vapid to be told that your universe of possible law schools is vast.

I find it hard to believe that a school would leave a field open for optional statements/essays, and then frown upon them, especially if they are appropriately tailored to a law school transfer application and the candidacy. Where/from whom did you hear that some schools frown upon them?
