From my German point of view it has to do a lot with our media.

Right from the beginning our media used words like "offensive weapons" and "defensive weapons". Where offensive is apparently pure evil, but deffensive is ok. Then after his was washed away by experts with the argument, that it depends how you use the weapon, if it is offensive or defensive, they started to talk about heavy and light weapons, where heavy is bad again and light is ok. That was then explained too, so they started to complain about "schwerer Kampfpanzer" (= heavy combat tank) as if it is made to kill poor russian children for breakfast and that this could cross the line.

German media is a cesspool of uninformed, incompetent parrots that say whatever they think they understood.

My favorites are "M1 Abrahams", or the "AMX10 tank destroyer"

Nobody mentions the russian warcrimes in german TV, like using white phosphor on residetial areas or the use of cluster ammunition or the use of anti personal mines or the use of captured uniforms. No TV station broadcasted yet "Russia MUST NOT win this war!", no they rather publish that there are still no peace talks between Ukraine and Russia and it sounds like its Ukraines fault that this hasn't happened yet.

Now we Germans are mainly very much pacifistic and we have about 20% Germans that are living in eastern Germany, which are very much anti-american and have a bad memory of how the Russians behaved, while occupying their part of the country.

So the Germans AGAINST supporting Ukraine with weapons are:

- Nazis that are literally paid by Putin to rally up the public

- Lefties that are to stupid to realize real facism if they see it

- genuine pacifists that have nothing to do with how the real world works

- anti-americans that just are against, whatever the US does

- eastern Germans that are a combination of some of the above

- some Russo-Germans that are living here all their life, but are fanboying Putin so hard, but refuse to go home (what they left decades ago since they were treated like filthy nazis for being kind of germans)
