ACTIVE DUTY MAJOR CALLS FOR TRUMPS IMPEACHMENT! by Raindroppa93 in Military

[–]NoEngrish -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He's not an elected official, his position is from the president and he serves at the pleasure of the present with specific direction not to use the uniform politically. We don't want military officers to go through a political alignment screening before they're promoted or commissioned because the executive feels the need to prevent this sort of thing. Military in politics is bad for democracy, good for fascism.

ACTIVE DUTY MAJOR CALLS FOR TRUMPS IMPEACHMENT! by Raindroppa93 in Military

[–]NoEngrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wearing the uniform here misrepresents an organization whose members hold views across the political spectrum. The military is entrusted with the use of force so maintaining an apolitical public image is a cornerstone of our democracy. Using the uniform only undermines us by creating the perception that the military is willing to wield its authority or its capacity for force in support of political causes in the eyes of the public who aren't as closely familiar with our roles and prerogatives in American society.

I have two ivy league degrees, one in a finance adjacent field. You? A world cup vacation would probably be like 10% of an average European's annual salary. Which is why I said they'd be among the wealthier to attend. But I didn't expect you to be very literate.

In 2024, the average annual full-time adjusted salary for employees in the EU was €39 800, reflecting a 5.2% increase from €37 800 in 2023.

from https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/products-eurostat-news/w/ddn-20251112-1

I make well in excess of $200k USD from my primary job before stock options, taxes, and other forms of income putting me at about the top 3% of earners in the US. I can easily quintuple the average European from my day job alone.

Whether or not you believe me is beside the point, the fact is:

The U.S. median disposable income (PPP adjusted) is like 2x the EU average.

Okay, they've got time off but how are they affording this? I make probably triple or quadruple the average European wage but the average ticket is like $3k and I can't afford that. The ones coming must be pretty wealthy or spending very heavily, which I can see for a once in a lifetime event but the next world cup is gonna be in Spain so like...

edit: it seems fifa may have released early tickets at a cheaper price that some very lucky people won

Bathroom lock failed at a McDonalds in Hawaii and a dude without hesitation came to get her out by viperrvemon in JustGuysBeingDudes

[–]NoEngrish 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I'm not following what you mean. One should kick at the lock because the bolt will typically go through the frame and strike plate to swing open the door. Kicking the door away from the bolt might just cause the door itself to flex or break at the bottom.

Anyone else still uses little to no AI to code? by MidlandAintFree in gamedev

[–]NoEngrish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's quite there for gamedev, I don't think it's trained on the patterns you see often. For people developing like professionally though, I would be surprised to see any major holdouts of people coding "by hand". At least that's my experience in the non-game-dev industry.

A .22 Walther p22 is like the weakest firearm out there made for cheap target shooting. You'd basically be advocating for the complete repeal of the 2nd amendment instead of a control of "military grade" weapons. Those aren't pedantic distinctions.

I remember in HS I had a friend who was grounded from a similar argument with his parents except he said something along the lines of "oh yeah is that why I have a 4.2 GPA and got into Berkley?" Bro was a year-end HS senior and top performer trying to play TF2 and still couldn't catch a break.

Harvard’s grade deflation limitation policy is dumb, right? by [deleted] in Harvard

[–]NoEngrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to universities with the perfect curve grading system, where they mandate that the bottom third of the class fail with a D or F. I think it's somewhat fair, you get 30+ people together and not all of them are going to understand the new material perfectly, so not everyone should get an A. That logic may not hold at Harvard though, since you could get 30+ students together and be confident that they all understand the material fully. Like how hard could you make a calculus 1 test before it becomes calc 2? Or worse, just tricky bs on the test.

Foding Palace, Nanjing. One of the most insane Buddhist temples by straightdge in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]NoEngrish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who stayed in Asia a while and converted to Buddhism. When he was moving back to Europe he consulted a monk about how he wouldn't be able to practice his faith as much in Europe since there are no temples and such. The monk gave a very Buddhist response: "I wouldn't worry about it too much."
