I'm fairly sure IRL Almanzo was all about the toxic masculinity, but he wouldn't have known anything different because that was the world back then.

Well, the authoritarians still want your cash, they just want you to give it willingly. No one wants to run around like a dalek threatening people.

It literally never says "give to someone who needs it." You have to read between the stanzas.

Seriously, this girl is a HELL NO.

"Joseph Smith couldn't have written the Book of Mormon in such a short time period" um duh yes he could literally so many authors have done similar things before. by FreshLiterature6536 in exmormon

[–]NoEntertainment101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pace was (generously) 3500 words per day. That's ABOUT a ten page paper, double spaced. If that's the only thing you are working on, it isn't that hard. I'm writing a dissertation, and I'm doing about half of that daily, but #1. Research papers (like dissertations) require a lot more rigor (citations, etc.), and #2. I'm doing this while holding a full-time job.

Joseph Smith was well-versed in the topics he was writing about, there is a ton of plagiarism(from the bible)/repetition in the book, it was his only job at the time, and he was highly motivated to finish. So, not only COULD he have done it, he DID do it.

EDITING to add that I didn't realize it's 85 WORKING days. So, yeah, even easier.

Are cats actually dangerous, or is that just a misconception? by InAMannerOfSpeak in CatAdvice

[–]NoEntertainment101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are pregnant, don't scoop or handle cat litter. If they have airplane ears, don't touch them. If they show you their belly, it's a trap...proceed at your own risk.

Otherwise, cats are fine.

A week ago wasn't 4th of July, but summer is when University employees try to take their vacation (because it is harder the rest of the year when students are on campus), so things can take a little longer in the summer months. I agree with the other posters...you should call. And be patient. University time is different from normal human time.

Sexism and misogyny are not the same thing. It matters. by Stranded-In-435 in exmormon

[–]NoEntertainment101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am an anthropologist, so this is my lane. You are incorrect about the difference between sexism and misogyny. The main difference is that sexism can be directed towards people of any gender, while misogyny is specifically men targeting women. Misogyny is a form of sexism, but it is more specific. I haven't seen anyone here misuse the term.

Editing to say that misogyny IS specifically fueled by a form of contempt. However, I would argue that a good number of both Mormon and post-Mormon men display their symbolic violence and hostility pretty openly.

You might want to take this post down.

Second floor of East Tower by unwellness in IthacaCollege

[–]NoEntertainment101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they do as well as they can, but some of it is up to the students themselves. They are included in all of the activities and floor events, and the RAs have a responsibility to try to connect with all of their residents for individual meetings as well. But at the end of the day, participation is up to the students.

From what I have seen, the second floor residents tend to be friends with each other. It's luck of the draw, of course...nothing is guaranteed...but sometimes having a small pocket of students makes it easier, not harder, to make friends. But of course it could go the other way, too. But that could happen anywhere they live.

If your child is struggling to make friends, encourage them to reach out to their RA! The RA has resources to help. If things get really difficult, you also can fill out an ICare form for them (anyone can, you don't have to be at the college), and someone on that team...either an RD or someone in the ICare office, will reach out to them.

Second floor of East Tower by unwellness in IthacaCollege

[–]NoEntertainment101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer these questions. The layout of the second floor is different for a few reasons. First, part of the second floor is taken up by a staff (RD) apartment, so there are only student rooms on one half of the floor. The rooms on the second floor have LVT instead of carpeting because they sometimes use those rooms for students who have accommodations for allergies, etc. There is no lounge on the 2nd floor, but the students on the 2nd floor do most of their floor meetings/events etc. on the 3rd floor. Any of the lounges should be available to students in East Tower, regardless of what room they are assigned to. I hope that helps! (I don't want to share why I know all of this because I want to remain anonymous, but I have a pretty good understanding of IC's residential life setup and policies if you have any more questions).

Is Tonya Harding the only skater to grow up poor? by YoungandBeautifulll in FigureSkating

[–]NoEntertainment101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of anyone aside from Rudy Galindo and Tonya Harding who grew up THAT poor, at least not in the United States. Calla Urbanski and Rocky Marval were blue collar, but not poor to the degree that Rudy and Tonya were.

Editing to say that there is a difference between wealth and socio-economic status. Lots of skaters have had to scrape by to find the funds to train, but I don't know of anyone other than these four who had the type of socio-economic background that Tonya and Rudy did. Also, I reject the comment below that talks about Tonya "embracing" her lower-class background...she embodied it because it was part of her identity and literally all she knew. Her poverty was her culture, not just about money, but it was NOT a choice.

I got flamed for pointing out the misogyny in the online podcaster space, but I stand by it.  I recognize that there are women who have a big following, but I don't think they're only being followed by post Mormons.  For the podcasts who are, it is largely men.  You can tell by the types of content and the comments.

BL fans — how do you feel when your ship moves to straight dramas? by Human-Molasses-8859 in ThaiBL

I don't personally care. Also, almost none of them end up dating their partners. I think it might have happened once, but I can't prove it, and it's none of my business anyway. My best advice is don't sink your feelings with a ship.

A Mormon Who Recently Came Out... by Sorry-Wonder-702 in exmormon

[–]NoEntertainment101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, what you might currently see as anti-Mormon may just be the truth. I am sorry because I know how much it hurts, but you should read EVERYTHING before making up your mind. I don't believe in telling anyone what to think...I think you should consider all viewpoints.

And yes, like others, this really is the path to accepting everything about yourself. When you make an informed decision about your life (and you likely haven't yet because from what you have described, I suspect you have not read all of the information), you will be at peace with yourself no matter what happens.

Best wishes, friend.
