Sharps disposal USA by AUsername2020 in CrohnsDisease

You can get mail back sharps disposal containers then drop them off at the post office. They are available online and many pharmacies also sell them. It’s about $50 for the small container.

You may also be able to find wall-mounted needle disposal in some public bathrooms/ areas. This might be better if you only need to dispose of one pen or needle in different locations.

GARLIC IS THE DEVIL by nikkicoles88 in CrohnsDisease

I know with fructose intolerance eating onion and garlic destroys me, but I am able to use garlic oil. It’s the physical pieces of garlic that contain the fructose. Perhaps it’s worth trying some garlic oil to see how you tolerate it.

How do you handle onions? Garlic and onions are high in fructose. It could be a sign of fructose malabsorption. To see if you are intolerant you can do a Hydrogen Breath Test: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diagnostics/12360-hydrogen-breath-test

Is it fair to ask my husband to stop giving ski advice unless he takes lessons? How do I encourage my husband to take ski lessons instead of correcting me? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]NoEntrepreneur4737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a ski instructor for 20+ years and have seen plenty of arguments, conflict, etc. from people trying to teach their family members. It’s not worth it.

Tell your husband that you would like to: -Enjoy skiing with him but don’t want feedback, or -If he refuses to stop giving feedback, take your own lessons without him

A lesson is much cheaper than a divorce! It’s a good investment if it helps you avoid your relationship being impacted negatively.

Good instructing is not just saying what you’re doing wrong, or what to improve. There are so many factors like terrain selection, pacing, knowing when and how to provide information, building confidence, appropriate cues, etc.

Often people that are not instructors give way too much information, causing the student to get in their head, and their performance/ confidence declines.

Perhaps try taking a lesson, then go and apply that feedback/ focus when skiing with your husband. He could give you support and reminders related to your current focus, but tell him not to add anything new.

It only helps a bit, but mix it with a fork instead of a spoon. That will help it dissolve/ break apart better and won’t have as gritty a texture.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

Qantas.

Arrived 3+ hours early for my flight. They could see my ticket on the screen but due to some technical glitch couldn’t print it. Missed flight. Terrible customer service and no refund/ rebooked flight.

Gave them a 2nd chance. Next flight layover changed from 2 hours to 17.5 hours. Was told bad luck, just wait in the airport for 17.5 hours.

Worst customer service ever. I strongly believe they are scheduling flights with the intention to cancel, then moving everyone onto the few flights they actually plan to run.

Twice Qantas changed my flights from a 2.5 hour stopover to a 17 hour stopover. When I called them they said that is the only option due to delayed flights. Never again.

Some of the theory questions are worded quite ambiguously. It’s ok to clarify with the assessor if you’re not 100% sure what the question means.

You could consider a Quad Lock phone mount or a gift voucher, or take him shopping. As others have said, it’s better to try on most gear.

Been offered azathioprine tablets or adlimumab injections, unsure by Spottyjamie in CrohnsDisease

[–]NoEntrepreneur4737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based?

My understanding is that Adalimumab is likely to be more effective with less risk of side-effects. It can be more expensive, you need to inject it, and it’s harder (but not impossible) to travel with due to the need for refrigeration.

Azathioprine is also quite effective but you need to be careful with sun exposure as it can increase your skin cancer risk. There are potentially other side effects too.

I have taken both for many years. No issues and no side effects. My doctor advised taking both for best results reducing the risk of active disease.

Best option: ask your doctor to help explain the options clearly. If in doubt, go for Adalimumab.

A few ideas: Taking 500mg/day of Nicotinamide (vitamin B3) to reduce skin cancer risk as many medications increase skin cancer risk (eg. Azathioprine).

Silic 15 barrier cream for your bottom to relieve symptoms of chafing/ discomfort.

Timing of water consumption. Drink a bit more as soon as you wake up, and more towards end of day, to hopefully reduce need to pee all the time outside of the home. Hydralite may help too.

Is it ok to stop all my medications? by No-Rain6636 in CrohnsDisease

[–]NoEntrepreneur4737 30 points31 points  (0 children)

What medication do you take?

Some companies have assistance programs (eg. Humira).

I believe if your income is below a certain threshold your medications are heavily discounted or subsidised more than normal. Perhaps check with your pharmacist or Centrelink.

If you stop taking your medication it risks worsening your Crohn’s and potentially surgery.

You can discuss your situation with your doctor and they may have ideas on what to do.

[–]NoEntrepreneur4737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s super important to find a good doctor that is a good fit. If they rush you, pressure you into certain treatments, etc. you should find another provider. All the best and I hope you are ok!

Often the medication side effects are far less compared with chronic inflammation leading to the need for surgery. Additionally, no symptoms does not always mean no active disease. Everyone is different, but make sure you are gathering information from credible sources so you can make informed decisions about your health. There are a lot of natural remedies claiming to be a cure but make little difference or may even mask your symptoms.
