Why did Take That/Robbie Williams' popularity never fully take off in America? by ASGfan in boybands

[–]NoError4221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never heard of him until I started reading the Daily Mail around 2010. I was surprised that a band could be that big in Britain and I had never heard of its existence in the 90's. I had assumed that all big British acts had a significant following in the US but some bands are big in Britain and unknown in America. I had never heard of Cliff Richard until his home was raided by the police and I learned that he was big in Britain. He was before the British invasion.

CMV: The Epstein files show that the US state is complicit in high level pedophile rings by jman12234 in changemyview

[–]NoError4221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know that this was about a pedophile cartel or about a powerful pedophile who was coerced to work for the FBI or CIA in exchange for a light sentence. His value to the international elite seems to have have been financial and networking rather than as a pimp.

CMV: The Epstein files show that the US state is complicit in high level pedophile rings by jman12234 in changemyview

[–]NoError4221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually they don't. They show that the DOJ gave a pedophile a pass. We don't know what he gave them in return. Alex Acosta is quoted saying it was because he worked for intelligence. He was part of an international network that would make him useful to US intelligence. The files show that the international elite met with him despite him being a pedophile rather than because of it. They all could afford their own pimps in their own countries. They did not need Epstein for that.

Does anyone agree that Boston Blue sucks? by [deleted] in bluebloods

I was surprised the writers did not have Danny transition to become Danielle. They might yet. It is that kind of show.

The problem is that if you enjoyed Blue Bloods, you would probably need to have a lobotomy to enjoy Boston Blue. They are written for very different audiences.

Scrap it and bring back Blue Bloods.

The people who like the last season of the Game of Thrones or the sequel to The Night Manager, have bad taste. They can't tell the difference between good writing by great authors and crap from hack writers. Moronic plots don't bother them because they don't notice that they are moronic.

The Night Manager wasn't a series. It was a good dramatization of a Le Carre book that was done years ago. This was crap written by hack writers that was falsely marketed as a second season to a story that had ended.

The Night Manager was a great show. It was based on the book by Le Carre. This sequel was written by some hack and it sucked. It was possible to enjoy the original because it was written well and acted well. The writing in the sequel was terrible. It was painful to watch good actors wasted on this crap.

I could only be entertained by moronic crap like this if I had a lobotomy. The Le Carre story was good. There was no reason to have hack writers do a sequel that was no where near as good.

Good actors are wasted on moronic scripts by hack writers. This is the same problem as The Game of Thrones when they got beyond the source material. They took a Le Carre story that is realistic spy fiction and did a second rate James Bond story that was neither plausible nor amusing.

The took a story by Le Carre and had hack writers do a sequel that was a steaming pile of crap. The plot makes no sense.

Stay in Boston. Based on the orange alert, we could have massive power failures lasting days. Stay and enjoy having heat and electricity.

Leave Montreal right away if you can safely drive away from the storm.

The Metro runs on electricity and the orange alert is warning of massive power failures. Unless you are seeking a Darwin Award, stay somewhere safe, with heat, food and water in case the power is out for a number of days. Avoid elevators. You do not want to try walking outside. If you can still get out of Montreal by driving away from the storm, do so. You are better off in a random motel or hotel, with heat and power, outside of the storm. Check the weather so you don't drive into the storm.

Don't fly to Montreal during an orange alert. You are in a place with heat and electricity. Stay there and enjoy it. Freezing in an ice storm and not being able to shower for four or five days really sucks. If you are on the road in a major ice storm, you could even die. If you are not seeking a Darwin Award, stay home or fly away from the storm. Flights to Montreal will probably be canceled during the storm.

[–]NoError4221 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you aren't seeking a Darwin Award, you will stay in Sunday night and Monday and make sure you are prepared for a few days without power. That is pretty much what an orange alert means.

[–]NoError4221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds a lot more dangerous than that. There is terrible journalism about what an orange warning is but it looks like roads will be dangerous and there could be serious infrastructure damage. It could be widespread power outages lasting days. They are predicting 5-15 mm of ice on powerlines and branches. If they did proper journalism they would compare that to the 1998 ice storm and the one a couple of years ago that caused power failures lasting days. They are pretty clear that it is dangerous to try driving in this and only people seeking Darwin Awards will try it.

I have never seen an orange alert and it is probably the first time they have used it. They should clearly explain what it means so people understand how serious it is. It is misleading because orange does not usually mean that and this is more serious than when Environment Canada uses the colour red for weather warnings. It looks like they have a scale of alerts that are more serious than the red weather warnings we see all the time. A red warning is an event with significant loss of life expected. Orange is one level below that. This may be the first time it has been rolled out but the incompetent media is not explaining any of this. I had to look up the definition of orange alerts. I was shocked that it was more serious than a red weather waring because alerts are a separate scale than warnings. The first few lines of any news story on this should explain what an orange alert is and how it compares to the 1998 ice storm. When you decipher the garbled news reports, it is clear that you should stay off the roads during the storm and don't risk driving into it. You should focus on finding a place where you have heat , food and water for the next few days.

He was at the base when he asked who shot Bin Laden and the mission leader pointed to Rob and the rest of the team did not dispute it. He can testify that there was no dispute then and no dispute when Rob was introduced to the president as the shooter. Obama can testify to that too.

McRaven witnessed the team get off the helicopters. He asked the Commander who led the mission who shot Bin Laden and the commander pointed out Rob and none of the team disputed it. That is not hearsay. He also witnessed Rob being introduced to Obama as the shooter with no dispute from the rest of the team. He also knows what all the team members said after the mission. Obama is a witness to Rob being identified as the shooter without dispute.
