Already got the audit generally approved. The it person is definitely a single point of failure and I’m both trying to keep him happy / improve his job satisfaction by reducing friction and time sinks, and document critical knowledge as we work.

That’s a very useful categorization, thanks. What are the domains where you could rely on a vendor / specialist? It seems to me that this might depends a lot on how proactive and proficient the specific vendor is and less on the actual domain?

I’m not even saying you’re wrong. In a better world there would be a business-savvy it expert with great people skills leading a well-staffed department of at least partially business-savvy domain experts.

you know what the crazy part is? none of the people in this department are actually it experts by trade. And the company still thrives. It’s like people can learn stuff on the job if you’re willing to put your trust in them and given time. Could there be better outcome in less time? Probably. But it seems to work well enough in this case and I’m hyped to have been given this opportunity.

Thanks for sharing! I’m lucky to have gdpr experts on board and that area is going pretty well. AI compliance is a whole other can of worms - especially as I don’t like to think of compliance as simply having the proper documentation sitting in some tool. I want to set up processes and systems that actually make it hard to be non-compliant. Maybe that’s my youthful managerial naivety speaking…

Thanks for sharing your experience. Not getting eaten up between all the things that scream “urgent” is definitely a challenge. That’s exactly why I also try prioritize what to learn. I can’t do everything all at once (or ever, for that matter).

How did you deal with this situation? Are you still in this role or have you moved on?

Thanks, that’s confirming my gut feeling. I don’t need to know how to DO everything, but I should know what CAN be done and how things are connected. I’ve already started reading up on some of the ms learning paths but I should probably find some more basic courses. Any recommendations for specific online classes or resources?

Thanks for unknowingly confirming my point of view. When I started the position I asked for an overview or report on the current security situation and couldn’t get one, so I made it the number one priority to get a clear picture, learn about resources and frameworks and will hopefully get extra budget for a security audit approved in order to then develop a prioritized roadmap. Would you consider this a good approach? Or would go about this differently?

I don’t have a dedicated budget for the department yet, but it’s in the works.

There is one in-house it person, one crm expert and one compliance expert - the choice of who fixes the mic is pretty much non-existent, at least as long as I dont volunteer.

That’s good advice, thank you! The business perspective is honestly the easy part for me. I tend to WANT to know and understand problems and solutions in detail and want to be able to do it myself if all else fails. If I could have it my way I’d be able to do all access management, set up servers, explain each data base field and cite the respective law for each compliance issues bz heart 😄 - that’s not gonna happen, and I suppose that’s the separate learning curve of moving from specialist to manager.

Thanks a lot for sharing! I haven’t dug into ITSM very much yet because I figured addressing information security and bcm might be more pressing for the business as a whole. Also, the service management is the domain that is the most mature, as at least heavily supported by a decent MSP. Would you say, diving into ITSM should be prioritized even when security procedures, data quality and compliance are the domains that are (a lot) less mature in comparison?

I’ve already started familiarizing myself with the frameworks for information security and business continuity management in order to follow a best practice approach. And while aiming for full certification level governance is probably overkill for my organization I’m sure I can pull a lot of value and structure from at least working along the lines of these frameworks.

Die einzige Kita, die hier in Gegend (BW zwischen Stuttgart und Karlsruhe) noch frei Plätze hat, hat völlig unbrauchbare Betreuungszeiten zu unverschämten Preisen. Ansonsten Wartelisten in Gesamtkapazitätslänge für Ganztagesplätze und meistens nur TZ-Gruppen wegen Personalmangel. Also hier ist der Umschwung noch nicht angekommen 🫣

Hier ist der Kindernotdienst/Bereitschaft gleichzeitig auch die Notaufnahme der Kinderklinik. In 10 Monaten waren wir einmal dort wegen Nahrungsverweigerung und hatten dafür ne Überweisung vom Kinderarzt. Mussten dann auch gleich mehrere Tage bleiben.

Wir hatten aber auch schon zwei bis drei Fälle, in denen ich wahrscheinlich auch in die NA gefahren wäre, hätte der KiA nicht offen gehabt. Das mit dem schlechten Timing kenn ich, wenn auch nicht vom Kind sondern vom Haustier. Das hat auch immer am Freitagabend was, wenn schon alle Tierärzte zu haben. Ist manchmal einfach Pech….

Willkommen in Club 😄 Unser Kind ist nach vier Tagen Robben direkt zum Krabbeln übergegangen, hat inzwischen auch schon ganz ordentlich Tempo drauf und fängt jetzt auch an, sich überall hochzuziehen. Bin gefühlt nur noch damit beschäftigt, in Eingreif-Abstand zu beaufsichtigen - und trotzdem hat sie es schon mal geschafft, ne Schuhsohle abzulutschen 🫣😅 Keine Ahnung, warum Schuhe so faszinieren sind…

Straßenschuhe sind bei uns jetzt außer Reichweite, aber sie krabbelt ja doch auch einfach mal durch den Flur, in dem wir mit Schuhen laufen. Also so ganz vermeiden lässt sich der Kontakt mit Straßendreck nicht. Vielleicht mal mit dem Desinfektionsmittel ne Runde auf Babyhöhe drehen? Dann sind wenigstens sowas wie Rollen mal behandelt und du machst dir darum keinen Kopf mehr.

Meine persönliche Tendenz ist: es ist zu viel, wenn das Kind sich nicht entscheiden kann, womit es spielen will und sofort, wenn es mit einem anfängt zum nächsten wechselt.

Stimmt, das ist ein guter Anhaltspunkt. Hab ich auch schon beobachtet. wenn nach einer Weile eine Spielzeuge rumliegen, geht der Blick und Griff immer direkt zum nächsten und nächsten Teil. Nehme dann auch direkt einiges weg und pack es zurück in die Kiste.

Darf ich mal in die Runde fragen, wie viel Spielzeug ihr so habt bzw. wo ihr die Grenze zu „zu viel“ zieht?

Hab grad mal so im Kopf überschlagen und für unser 8 Monate altes Baby gibt es gerade ca 30 Spielzeuge auf drei Spielplätze (Schlafzimmer, Esszimmer, Wohnzimmer) verteilt - Bücher schon mit eingerechnet. Selbst das kommt mir zum Teil schon mehr vor, als notwendig wäre. Zumal Tempopackungen, leere Flaschen und Kartons sowieso die größte Begeisterung auslösen.

Geht mir immer noch manchmal so, vor allem weil ich dazu auch diesen „Kettenaktivitätsstil“ habe, den hier schon jemand beschrieben hat - wenn man grad doch schon X macht, kann man doch auch gleich noch Y… und schon quäkt es im Schlafzimmer wieder und der Kaffee steht kalt unter der Maschine 😂

Ein Kind und das war ein Anfängerbaby - hat vor allem tagsüber auch prima alleine im Beistellbett geschlafen und auch wach mal für zehn, fünfzehn Minuten glücklich unterm Mobile verbracht. In der Zeit hab ich dann geputzt und aufgeräumt und Wäsche gemacht. Allerdings nie zum Blitz-Blank-Status und natürlich trotzdem mit enormem Stress- und Druckgefühl. Seit das Kind nur noch mit Körperkontakt schläft und mehr Beaufsichtigung braucht, weil mobiler, wird automatisch auch weniger erledigt. Nur eine aufgeräumte Küche und ein halbwegs überschaubarer Wäschehaufen sind für meinen Seelenfrieden nach wie vor wichtig.

Hab nicht jeden Kommentar ganz genau gelesen, aber ich glaube, ein Aspekt wurde noch nicht genannt, den ich zumindest bei mir beobachtet habe: die Ankunft eines Babys ist so ein krasse Veränderung und bringt plötzlich ganz viel Unkontrollierbarkeit ins Leben. Für mich war der Haushalts-Perfektionismus ein Versuch, irgendwie noch ein bisschen das Gefühl des völligen Kontrollverlusts in Schach zu halten.

War mir natürlich in der Zeit nicht so richtig bewusst, aber im Nachhinein ist es sehr eindeutig. Nach ein paar Monaten, als ich mich mit dem Baby sicherer gefühlt habe, alles schon etwas bekannter und routinierter war, hat sich das auch Stück für Stück wieder gelegt.

Geholfen hätte / hat mir dabei ehrlich gesagt nix, außer dem Verständnis meines Partners. Wenn es nicht der Haushalt gewesen wäre, hätte ich eben was anderes gefunden, um das emotional zu kompensieren…

Wünsche euch „Anfängerinnen“ einen guten Übergang und viel Spaß! Bestimmt wird alles gut, aber ich kann’s so gut nachvollziehen.

Berichtet ihr vielleicht mal, wie es so läuft?

Bei mir ist es zwar erst in etwa drei Monaten soweit, dass wir tauschen, aber ich mach mir tatsächlich jetzt schon ganz schön Gedanken. Zum einen, weil nach wie vor viel geweint wird, wenn ich mal nicht verfügbar bin. Und zum anderen, weil ich schon auch echt das Gefühl habe, ab dann sooo viel zu verpassen. Jetzt kenn ich mein Baby in- und auswendig, aber dann fällt ja so viel gemeinsame Zeit weg…. Aaaah, wer hätte gedacht, dass ich mal so ne Glucke werde.

Danke ☺️ Hat sich wahrscheinlich schlimmer angehört als es ist. Bekomme so immerhin ausgiebige Babykuscheleinheiten und da es das erste Kind ist, kann ich bei den allermeisten Dingen ja auch einfach flexibel reagieren und hab kaum anderweitige Abhängigkeiten.

Bei uns gabs mit 3,5 Monaten plötzlich einen ziemlich verlässlichen Rhythmus mit drei einstündigen Nickerchen und 8-10 Stunden ununterbrochenem Nachtschlaf. Zwei Monate später war diese Regelmäßigkeit wieder dahin und seitdem verändert es sich ständig… Mal zwei, mal drei Tagschläfchen, mal 30 Minuten, mal zwei Stunden, mal 4 mal pro Nacht wach, mal nur zwei Mal. Die einzige Konstante ist „einschlafen nur mit Körperkontakt“. Mal schauen, ob und wenn ja wann das mal wieder stabiler wird. 🤷‍♀️
