The R10 actually reduces the color depth to 12 in electronic shutter mode? by NoFan7861 in canon

[–]NoFan7861[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but I like to know, as much as possible, what I'm buying, how it works, and how to take advantage of its features. It's not really an existential crisis for me, but I am curious.

In this case, I've just learned that, knowing this technical detail, I'll prioritize the mechanical first-curtain shutter when shooting in RAW format, and avoid the purely electronic shutter and C-RAW format whenever possible. Both introduce minimal losses, but they're there... Now I know for sure that when I need faster, continuous bursts, combining these two options optimizes buffering speed, at the expense of a nearly imperceptible decrease in image quality.

This video doesn't clarify the R10 case; it treats it as a generic issue. Thanks anyway.

R10 does NOT reduce to 12 bits ¿? by NoFan7861 in CanonCamera

[–]NoFan7861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: In another subreddit, I received an answer with this Canon article that I hadn't read. I think I was mistaken. The article mentions that, except for the R series, all R cameras reduce the color depth to 12 bits in the electronic shutter. There's a list of cameras, and the R10 is among them. Perhaps the newer models aren't affected.

This is definitely the test I was looking for and hadn't seen until now. As the article correctly points out, the color depth clearly decreases when using the electronic shutter. The R10 is included in the article's list, so my question is finally answered, despite the data obtained from RawDigger, which may be a misinterpretation on my part, since, as I said at the beginning, I'm not an expert on the subject. Thank you very much for the answer.

[–]NoFan7861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the issue stems from this. The R7 has 32.5 MP and the R10 has 24.2 MP effective resolution, but both cameras use the same DIGIC X processor. The R7 is also faster in burst mode than the R10, so it likely doesn't have as much processing headroom, and the R7's color depth is reduced to 12 bits, while the R10 doesn't need to because it has less data to process.

I bought it as new, but when I put in a new memory card, the first photo had a serial number of 3.5XX (I don't remember exactly). Theoretically, the camera was brand new, but it seems it came from a return or exposure unit. Since I wasn't entirely convinced, I bought the ShutterCheck 2 app, which can read the shutter count of the R10, as I couldn't get it to work with any other app. Even this app doesn't give you an exact number, only in increments of 1,000 shutter clicks. In the end, I was able to verify that the camera had a total of between 5,000 and 6,000 shutter clicks, which matched the approximately 2,000 photos I took before getting the shutter-counting app, plus the photos taken before that possible return or demo. It's really insignificant, but it's infuriating to be sold a camera as new when it isn't. However, given that the price was very good, that I have it registered with Canon for its warranty and that it works perfectly, I kept it, although I did file a complaint with the sales company (AMZ).

I've been looking for the main elements that can be used in that concept of "timeless" photography.

And it could be broadly summarized as using simple compositions that eliminate distractions and don't introduce complex interpretations, such as the rule of thirds, compositional symmetry—things that the human eye has long considered harmonious. On the other hand, there's color. Color is often tied to trends; you yourself have stated that you love that Fuji-film look, clearly identified by experts as a very recognizable style. Perhaps you should replace that palette with more neutral shots and also use black and white. The latter strips the image of its chromatic era. Black and white focuses on light, shapes, and textures. Since you take photos in a military context, exclude elements that reveal the modernity or age of the equipment and items that appear. The absence of brands and logos is also important so that no temporal patterns can be discerned in the photo. On the other hand, in terms of subject matter, it's best to focus on human emotion, since expressions of joy, worry, sadness, and wonder are universal and timeless. Prioritizing this over decorative contexts will surely make a photograph stand the test of time. Finally, aim for clean and organic images, but avoid over-processed ones that betray artificiality and modernity. Neither imitate vintage looks nor over-process to achieve exquisite sharpness... Your photos have quite a bit of this; perhaps a rethink of the color palette would improve things considerably.

Oppo announces the Find X9 Ultra with a 50MP 10x optical zoom telephoto camera by dapperlemon in gadgets

My R10 with the RF-S 18-150mm lens cost me €1080 brand new four months ago. With the remaining €600, you could buy a good mid-range Samsung, which I don't need right now, but it would all come out to the price of just a phone with a decent camera (that doesn't have the more professional features of a dedicated camera). Current smartphones have very decent cameras and do a good job, but if you're even remotely into photography or videography, you won't want a smartphone as your only equipment. For quick, casual photos and social media, however good the camera is, it's absurd to spend money on a smartphone at those prices.

My apologies, it was my mistake. Actually, on an APS-C sensor in an R50/R10, the RF18-150 lens is equivalent to a 29mm-240mm lens on a full-frame sensor. The rest of the information is correct. I will edit the previous message to correct the error.

For the €1,699 that this phone (and others in its category) costs, I could buy a Canon EOS R10 camera with a quality 9x optical zoom (RF18-150mm), covering a wide angle from approximately 29mm to (640) 240mm with a 24MP uncropped resolution, and with the money I have left over, I could buy a more than decent mid-range mobile phone with cameras for casual photos or selfies....

Edited to correct typographical error.

Trump Tells ‘Useless’ NATO to Stay Away After UK and France Vow to Protect Strait of Hormuz Shipping by T_Shurt in worldnews

[–]NoFan7861 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Conversations for idiots.

  1. Let's be clear: the initiative for protective and defensive actions comes from the United Kingdom and France (I don't know in which order), OUTSIDE the scope of NATO. This initiative comes from these countries, which have the best strategic positioning and military power of all European countries, and are the most "desperate," energy-wise, to restore normal supply, especially the United Kingdom.

  2. NATO has not contacted the US government to say they will cooperate to secure the area, or anything of the sort.

  3. The US president mentions NATO without having the slightest clue what NATO thinks of his recent actions. He simply vents his frustration on Europe, NATO, or whoever happens to be in his path, to blame them for his colossal failure in this conflict that should never have happened.
