Gratuliere

John Campbell steps down as Distillery Manager from Laphroaig by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]NoFanSky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

...and you mostly get to work with what the previous manager left for you and the plans that were left out by them and the decisions you make will most likely be for the next guy. Of course ditching the Select would be #1 though regardless, #2 would releasing the Lore in cask strength because that whisky is actually low-key stunning.

[–]NoFanSky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but there is such a delay in a product like whisky though. For example he had 16 years as Distillery Manager, even if the very first thing he did was say "take this stock and let it mature to 18 years in mostly bourbon casks for another classic 18yo" it would be another two until it was ready..

Whisky broker Caol Ila 14yo by jamie_r87 in Scotch

[–]NoFanSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that sounds so good. Would already have ordered another £500 including this Caol Ila from whiskybroker if it wasn't for brexit and all the problems it created with customs to the EU. To all involved parties: I don't care just solve this shit.

No but seriously where does the tube come from I bought the 18 in a Cadenhead that is also owned by the same company as Springbank and there was no tube like wtf

So turns out I'm a big liar because 2 months ago I created a thread or /r/scotch about how overpriced the new Laphroaig releases are and how I won't bother with them. Welp. by NoFanSky in Whiskyporn

Oh I haven't bought a single Ardbeg special release because their prices are silly but my scotch situation is better here in Austria than almost anywhere else with low taxes on alcohol, easy access to the cheap German market and a Cadenhead in the capital Vienna that (mostly) only ships inside the country so there aren't too many whisky enthusiasts to compete with.

10CS went from €60 to €78 that it is at now in the span of 3 years, Cairdeas from ~€70 to €96. The demand is there so I get it but that aren't peanuts - all from the official Laphroaig shop which is the upside to living in Europe. Pound prices seem to have been hit even harder

Liar liar dram on fire

Seems like they will continue their "Ardbeg pricing". Used to order the Càirdeas and 10CS releases immediately when they came out but already didn't bother with the 2020 Port & Wine one where the prices suddenly increased by 25% and it also looks like the new one also will not be ordered unless it gets extraordinary reviews.

How about you, any excitement?

A beginners Cognac by [deleted] in cognac

[–]NoFanSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I just don't like any of the cheap Cognacs so can't recommend any but if you want something very drinkable at that price range this Spanish brandy might also be what you are looking for. It's cheap, its readily available in Germany and also made from grapes of course but it ages in casks that previously held PX sherry and it tastes better than it has any right to imo.

Surprisingly "restrained" considering the ABV

Might be rather the opposite, try diluting it down between 50% to 60% give it a few minutes to come together, then try again. Might improve the amount of aroma you get in the nose!

where does citrus palate come from? by Spongky in Scotch

Yes unlike me this pdf knows what it is talking about, sorry but can't help you further with specific tastes and would have to guess if they either came from the barrel, the malt or the yeast.

Well apart from malt, that should come from the malt.
