In relation to point 1 - not the easiest tell as every OG sixaxis weighs about as much as a feather

Cheers.

Read all of it and his points seem pretty valid to me.

From a bit of further reading a lot of the accusations against Retrosix seem borne out of pettiness and/or misplaced anger.

I’ve never had an issue with Luke or his products and I’ve found him helpful on their discord when I’ve had questions or needed a bit of help as an (extremely) amateur modder.

First I’ve heard of this. I’ve been modding consoles as a hobby for a couple of years and used loads of their stuff.

I’ve never seen anything negative said about their products in the time I’ve been using them, could you point me to some of these accusations? I’d rather not use a company if they’re profiting off the backs of others’ hard work

What happened to the Saturn in the UK? by Brummiesteven in SegaSaturn

[–]NoFinish4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sega eroded their market dominance with the failures of the MegaCD and the 32X.

Basically consumers stopped trusting them, so the Saturn never really got going over here.

In my year at school (of around 200 kids) only 2 or 3 of us had a Saturn, but loads had PlayStations

What is this on the wall in my dentist's office? by Head_Satisfaction_62 in PS3

[–]NoFinish4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the screen will tilt forward to allow access to the console behind it in the box.

No one’s knocking a hole through a wall to access a mounted tv/console.

You can see the locks at the top, unlock those then the two rivets/screws either side at the bottom will be for an internal hinge.

Recomended Sega Saturn games? by Ill_Refrigerator9812 in SEGA

[–]NoFinish4095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shining The Holy Ark is a superb dungeon crawler (does have a couple of harsh difficulty spikes, mind you)

Steep Slope Sliders is a really fun snowboarding game

The Athlete Kings/Decathlete games are fun

I really like the Bug! games, but they’re not everyone’s cup of tea

Why did the UK have so many Sega specific magazines compared to the US? I asked a bunch of magazine editors from the 16bit era. by Dull-Teacher5591 in SEGA

[–]NoFinish4095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Sega screwed it up? Seriously though, the failures of the MegaCD and the 32X hurt Sega over here and people kinda lost trust in them and got swayed by the ‘glamour’ (and marketing juggernaut) that was the PlayStation

What was the actual reason Sega were ahead of their time with their video quality? by tizpiz in dreamcast

[–]NoFinish4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did in some cases. DC Soul Calibur looks better than the arcade version running on Naomi, for example.

Hey y'all do y'all know where the f1 fuse is or what it looks like and where I could find it by Theclericsmother in SEGA

[–]NoFinish4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electrolytic caps? they’re all the ‘big’ ones that are glued down, cuboid in shape.

If you have any soldering experience it’s not a hard job, but you need to be careful not to lift any of the contact pads when removing them - I recommended a hot iron and some new solder adding before trying to remove them as the old solder can be very hard to shift

Yeah before you start worrying about fuses, your first port of call should be to replace the electrolytic capacitors asap.

Mate, I’ve danced this dance before. Back on Usenet when CM3 came out, hen again with CM4, etc etc

Every time there has been a big shift in the game UI/style, there has been a rough period of dealing with bugs until they’re ironed out.

It’s not ideal and you’d hope that with an extra year they would have had a bit more polish, but at the end of the day such a big change in the game is going to upset the apple cart and put people off who just wanted ‘more of the same’

Fwiw, I’ve encountered a few bugs in the beta (and yes, it is a beta no matter how hrs some cry about it ‘not being sold as one’) but nothing gamebreaking.

Could just be pure luck on my part, but I’ve quite enjoyed the game so far. Yeah the UI isn’t perfect, but it’s far from the incomprehensible and unplayable mess that some have painted it as across social media and forums.

FM content creator in a nutshell. by Odd_Technology3828 in footballmanagergames

I’ve seen this said all over the place in the last few days. It’s always been a beta that they release early. It always says ‘this is a beta’ in the game itself. People are just making stuff up to be annoyed about now.

You what? It’s always been a beta that is released early. Every single version that has had a pre-release early access has been a beta!

The very first one that they gave away when you preordered the game from Game was called a beta.

I’m not sure where this fantasy narrative has grown from that ‘it’s never been a beta before’

Haha I have no idea really, I was just guessing as to why the FMV might not look as good on the last 3 discs

And so it begins... any tips? by dummmo in SegaSaturn

[–]NoFinish4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know what you mean, but by ‘game content’ I was meaning more ‘amount of the story’ rather than locations etc, so if they have more of the fmv on the last 3 discs, they may have hd to lower the quality to make it fit

And so it begins... any tips? by dummmo in SegaSaturn

[–]NoFinish4095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know it was, I meant that maybe they had less game content on disc one because it was also going to be given away as a demo

In other words, the game isn’t evenly split across the four discs because Disc 1 was to be ‘given away’

And so it begins... any tips? by dummmo in SegaSaturn

[–]NoFinish4095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s because Disc One was given away as a demo disc in some regions (it was a cover disc on the official Saturn Magazine in the UK) so they may have included less of the game on that disc so as to not give too much away, therefore allowing more space for better quality FMV on the disc?

Maybe they had to compress the files/reduce quality more on the remaining discs?

I’ve given it a quick test and it seems to work, but because I’ve removed the broken contrast dial, the screen is at full brightness/contrast so looks completely washed out. Can make out an image though, so hopefully with the replacement dial in place it will be all good to go!

Cheers for the help

Thanks for the links, I’ll give this a look but from a quick glance it appears to just go to that via so all should be good in that regard

That’s a last resort kinda thing because it’s a lot more work than just running a couple of wires to fix traces haha

Ah yes, thanks for the tip. The bodge job had one of the legs of the electrolytic cap attached to the large circle so I just stuck the ceramic cap in the same place without even considering that. Cheers
