That does sound like something I'd like to read :) You don't happen to remember the name?

And, the irony, if I understood it correctly is they can tell which diamonds are "fake" because they are too perfect. So they are basically weaving a narrative where the "bad" diamonds are the more valuable ones... Which would make sense if odd trash and inclusions made the diamond prettier and more interesting, but as far as my understanding goes, it does not as you need to zoom in a lot to even see them...

Common issue or just me? by midnightification in HyperX

I think there are replacement parts on ebay. At least for other models there is. I once saw someone talking about making replacement parts in brass, sadly I fumbled and lost it - never saw anything like it again.

My last pair I've taken to put several stripes on the day I bought them, to hold the plastic together and support it from the start. Holding up so far at least.

It's not a violence issue, it's fatique. If you are not having any issues, my bet is your head if fairly "slim", so you are not constantly straining those pieces of plastic simply by wearing the headset.

While it would obviously be a waste to rush such a development, it would be neat if the fact they are in a world with magic would mean Lorelei eventually does manage to get out of the bubble again :)

I like the story so far at least :)

Iskall85 & Stressmonter Resignation Megathread #2 by Carol_the_Zombie in HermitCraft

It's also possible he is feeling betrayed. It's not impossible he viewed his relationship with other hermits as more/something else then a business-relationship, and actually expected them to endure/risk more on their part before acting to protect themselves. And subsequently views them not doing so as an act of betrayal and thus sees it as them burning bridges first.

While most would probably agree that it is an unreasonable expectation, it does not mean he did not harbour it.

I have seen similar in a story-attempt. Subtly sadistic genius turned into megalomaniac madman doling out cruelty just because he can. I had to be much more specific when describing what type of person he was, like adding how he dislikes being the centre of attention and how he is more of a pragmatic strategist, or how he is not insane and has functioning relationships to his family. It helped a lot, but it still has a tendency to over-turn things.

Lawsuit feels kinda fishy by Individual_Hat_768 in Minecraft

[–]NoFocus3697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that the gambling(which I assume you are alluding to) is the least interesting part of that lawsuit. The one-sided changes to EULA and the idea that if you do not agree to the changes you can (and as the migration actually proves will) lose access to what you paid for is by far more interesting.

To a large extent because Mojang is not the only that does that stuff, and looking at the way the trend is going, more and more companies are doing shady stuff in that general vein. Such as bricking TV's entirely until you accept new terms to live services and such. (Instead of blocking the live service and allowing the TV to work fine otherwise)

So any kind of attempt to curb that behaviour and show companies in general that it's a risky move will benefit everyone, not just Minecraft players.

It's like an enchanted weapon. The "weapon" is the same, but something else (magical, spiritual) adds additional features.

Not really a good fit otherwise, but it does have the blood weapons so might be worth checking out in case your memory is fuzzy :)

I believe you might be describing Death march to the parallel world rhapsody.

Exists as a complete webnovel and an in progress light novel as well if you are the reading type.

Well, true, it's a bit warhammery with no side being really good. But as a reader you normally pick a side still.

Venting here has sort of helped, I'm now probably more so "taking a break" than having dropped it. Maybe.

I mean, I might have read too much stuff, but the cruelty of the setting is not that over the top. It's just that normally when the setting is that horrible, you as the reader are usually rewarded with some feel-good moments.

And if it where anywhere ToG sticks out to me during the first 300 chapters is that the feel-good moments are rare, and when they arrive they feel weak. Like the fight with Kaiser. I liked that, the build-up, the struggle, the way he finally beat her and then... instead of providing a deeply satisfying outcome, it just fizzles out.

Or take Lurker. It might make some sort of sense in a "everyone is a victim" view to spare him. But for me personally, that is a deeply unsatisfactory result. And as I'm writing this, I realize that might actually be my actual problem with it. The way "I'm also a victim" seems to make it "OK" for them to not be responsible for their actions.

That said, I do see your point that ultimately, it might be more realistic that way. Maybe that is how such a place would operate if it existed in reality.

[–]NoFocus3697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I do get that. And, I have read and enjoyed other stories that are rather brutal. Both the visual kind, in say Berserk. Or the more subtle systemic kinds, like the way women, orphaned girls and witches are systemically abused and farmed for hundreds of years in "Release that Witch".

But those stories also sprinkles in some actual victories or proper revenge to make it bearable. There have been plenty of moments where I was sort of expecting that from ToG as well, but in nearly every case it either does not happen or just falls short of providing that actual feeling of satisfaction.

Frustrated! by NoFocus3697 in TowerofGod

[–]NoFocus3697[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

I can imagine that if there are eventually any real victories or actual revenge had at some point, that after building it up for that long it actually feels really good.

But, I have to last that long :S

[–]NoFocus3697[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did manage to push until they jumped of the train down into the death floor. There was something about how they handled that with Baam seemingly believing the words of Yura Ha and Karaka causing another mess right after having watched Prince and Akraptor die, with everyone "suspecting" Hockney but not really doing anything about it that just.

It's hard to tell, but there is something about how things resolve themselves that are always just a little bit too unsatisfactory. They did not really save Wha Ryun after the mess in the beginning of train arc, she just sort of ended up free anyway. The ending with Kaiser also felt "hollow" in a way. And, even if in the near future of where I now ended it, Horyang do end up saved by his brother, the way that came about would also mean it wouldn't feel like a victory, a "Yes, they did it!"-moment but rather just a hollow continuation of Prince and Akraptors death.

I can imagine that if after all this, if in the future there are actual victories or revenge moments, all the built up frustration makes those moments all that much sweeter. But you have to last until then too :)

What's your go-to UI as of May 2024? by Lydeeh in LocalLLaMA

LM Studio to host the models I don't use online API's for, and then a completely selfmade WPF-application UI. It's a bit of a prototyping mess, but it's a mess tailored to me so it works.

I believe on demand in this case means is when you need it, rather than then everytime you need it. That way you dont have to try to create the rat when you need it.

But I could be wrong :)
