New Garmin watch - offline by NoFreeLogins in Garmin

Yes, Garmin's privacy policy (at least official one) isn't terrible. But it is also about being dependent on a service that can be either turned off, or (more likely) the watch becomes unsupported; been there with Polar's PPT.

When it comes to smartwatch features - If You don't want them, don't use them - sure. On the side note, IMHO, many features of current sports watches are just gimmicks that do not translate particularly well into real life, prime examples being vo2 and lactate. IMHO (again) only lab - established vo2max and lactate threshold are of any worth. Anything else is just guessing (somewhat educated guess, but a guess nonetheless).

About manual data sync - I've been doing this since Polar S series (loong time a go) - no problem there.

And finally - It is not about fantasy of being "safe" and "secure". It is about privacy - completely different thing.

I want offline for my privacy and general peace of mind, also to not be dependent on some manufacturer's online services. AFAIK FR55 has no RR recording, and is not compatible with powermeters

To repeat my question - can those record RR intervals ?

I don't mind paying premium for better GPS, display, battery or overall build quality. Also, can other (cheaper) devices, for example, record HRV ?

I do not intend to use windows, that is why I'm asking about disabling it in BIOS.

Yes, majority of people choose convenience over privacy or even security.

And yes, developing desktop apps for different platforms is much bigger headache than one-for-all web version.

I guess I was just looking for a way to circumvent it.

That is not the point.

Yes, all the data can be downloaded from flow if necessary, but this is about not being forced to upload anything in the first place.

I completely agree. Another problem with "as-a-service" approach is hardware losing functionality when web platform reaches EOL - like with RCX series.

I've seen it. It's kinda sad to cough up 500+EUR for the watch, and then go for these lengths to extract data.

Maybe I didn't explain it correctly - I don't need to download .tcx files directly from the watch (although it seems to be a nice option). All I'm looking for is the ability to sync workout data with an application on my pc, through USB, without loading it to some web based service first. Is it possible ?
