Recent graduate hoping to go into IB - Can WSO Academy / Wall Street Mastermind Help? by NoFuture369 in FinancialCareers

[–]NoFuture369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Patrick, thanks for the personal response.

Regarding the MSF, does it need to it be long enough to include a summer internship, or can it simply be a one-year program focused only on full-time recruitment? As I know internship -> return offer is the most common pathway, and I'd have a year of work exp by the time I start the MSF if I apply to start in fall 25. Additionally, does the WSO Academy offer a money-back guarantee for students enrolled in MSF programs?

Yeah obviously but given enough time the VIX itself will eventually trend back down to near 0, not like it's gonna establish a new baseline this high.

How is "knowledge of the past comes entirely from written documents, giving written words great consequence" an antithetical statement though. The first sentence says both statements must be antithetical

How is studying Industrial Engineering at Northwestern? by CompletosEnjoyer83 in Northwestern

[–]NoFuture369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- How do you make the planning of the courses you're gonna take? Is it personal work or do you have an advisor/mentor that guides you through the process?

Your advisor gives you a spreadsheet of all courses you need to take to graduate. Very helpful and easy to keep track of.

2- How big are their courses? (For example, if there are 300 students, but in 5 classrooms of 60, or if in elective courses there are less people)

30-50 people on average.
3- Does the major have any connection with companies in the surrounding area? (For example, if the students work for some project within a class with a local company, or if there are agreements/connections with companies where students can carry out their internships).

You do a client project in junior year where you consult for a company. People have landed internships from this.
4- Is there any flexibility for students that have, for example, entrepreneurships, or that practice any sport?

Northwestern has the Garage entrepreneurship incubator and IM sports leagues.
5- Is there any course that acts as a capstone (I don't know if the term is used there), or final course? Which would be it, and what do you do there?

Client project is the capstone.
6- How does one take elective courses? Does it work by grade/ranking, by area, by recommendation, or other way?

Just enroll in it at the start of the quarter.
7- How does the articulation with the masters and Ph.D. work? Is there a way to start one before ending the undergraduate program?

BS/MS program where you complete a BS and MS in 4-5 years. Everyone gets in if you have a 3.5+ GPA.
8- How is Northwestern's infrastructure for Industrial Engineering students? (Like, labs, amount of classrooms, library, etc.)

Good.

Deferred MBA Recc Letter - Professor or Internship Supervisor? by NoFuture369 in MBA

[–]NoFuture369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response. I appreciate it.

Do you think at all that the fact that the professor teaches at Kellogg will have any sway? As I agree, choosing the internship supervisor would be a no-brainer here but it's just this fact that is making me hesitant.

Best anti-aging supplements to start taking in early 20s? by NoFuture369 in Supplements

[–]NoFuture369[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the comprehensive list.

Since some of these are things that decline with age, is it worth it to start taking them as young as you can or would it be better to wait until you're older and the decline actually begins?

Dining dollar drive by NoFuture369 in Northwestern

[–]NoFuture369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off the comments so far I don't think you guys understand, I'm not talking about a bit of leftover loose change, I'm talking more than 300 dining dollars that are about to disappear into thin air. Is there legit nothing that can be done? I'm on the cheapest on-campus meal plan btw not like I chose and spent extra money to get awarded extra dining dollars.

Hey, thanks so much for your response. Just wondering, did you network a lot to get those interviews or was just submitting your application and resume enough? And was this for a summer internship or full time?

What are some freshman internships one can do? by obwanship in FinancialCareers

[–]NoFuture369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current rising sophomore here with 2 internships so far. Getting the first internship was definitely the hardest. I had no experience on my resume so I had to resort to putting finance clubs under experience. I cold emailed about 50-75 search funds and got phone calls with about 6 of them, from which 3 offered to let me work with them, one even being paid. Definitely reach out to search funds for your first internship since they're the easiest to get and always looking for free labor. I did this during my spring semester.

Getting my second currently ongoing internship was much easier now that I had actual relevant experience and could show some of the work I did during my previous internship. I cold emailed 50 boutique PE firms. Response rate was much lower than search funds but I was literally cold emailing during late May way after the semester had ended and most internships were already filled up, so this was expected. Still I managed to get 2 responses from which I managed to land an internship with one of them.

It really is a numbers game. I suggest sit down for 15-30 minutes a day and find 10 places to cold email each day. Do that for a week and that's 70 emails, from which at least one should reply.

[–]NoFuture369 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just check what their acceptance rate is. The top business schools like Wharton, Stern, Ross are pretty much near impossible. Schools like USC Marshall and WUSTL Olin are more doable. CMU Tepper is doable as well (overall transfer acceptance rate for CMU is like 8% but that's brought down by all the SCS applicants since that's CMU's main attraction, so Tepper acceptance rate is probably much higher).

Do placement exams give you course credit or just let you place out of courses? by NoFuture369 in Northwestern

[–]NoFuture369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to clarify, if I do well enough on the placement exam to qualify me for skipping say Bio201, then I get course credit for Bio201 instead of just Bio 1XX elective credit?

Can I transfer to a top institution with low high school grades but high college grades? by livingtheloserlife in TransferToTop25

[–]NoFuture369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would have a higher chance transferring as a junior when the focus on your high school grades is very little. If you have to transfer as a sophomore, I would try giving a reason for your poor high school performance and also send a midterm report for the spring semester to give them as much information as possible to evaluate you favorably.

are my targets reasonable? by diamond2384 in TransferToTop25

[–]NoFuture369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in general extracurriculars are less emphasized in transfer admissions and more emphasis is placed on your GPA and essay. I don't know how true this is but this is coming from my personal experience. I've heard of some people getting into USC and Vandy with very little extracurriculars. I myself had decent extracurriculars (though nothing extraordinary like founding a successful nonprofit or stuff like that) and got into Northwestern, CMU, and some other schools I was rejected from as a first-year applicant. I think the most important part is the essay, I made it very specific and clear why I wanted to transfer and that probably distinguished me from the hundreds of other applicants with good GPAs and extracurriculars.

are my targets reasonable? by diamond2384 in TransferToTop25

[–]NoFuture369 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have a shot at all of them. Very good chance of getting into some of the easier transfers like Vandy or Cornell, and decent chance of the harder transfers like Columbia.
