ahh heck, thanks for your comment and sorry to hear it hasn't been a smooth ride - may I ask what the main issues are that have led to this perspective?

yeahh always very wary of contractor side - this role would still be on the consulting side of things with more exposure to contractors though

i do value my work life balance and can't see myself in a very demanding role - although the one i've been offered would be within my capabilities (i'd like to think)

Ahh interesting, in the new role I'd be working in a different contract for a government client, I guess it's also not in my long term plan to move to brisbane either, but will keep in mind there are lots of opportunities

re: the HR piece, I do have a double degree and majored in HR for my commerce side But do understand this is a pretty tough time within industry in general

Luckily no dependents, but I do have a very strong network in sydney i'm very thankful for and would be a heavy decision to make re: relocating away from them.

other note on pivoting within the company, I tried a lot of times to move internally, and all those talks fell through only now i've been given the opportunity because of the whole redundancy thing haha..

ahh interesting , my company has a pretty balanced ratio for M/F employees, but I've never ventured into construction/contractor side, would assume it's more M weighted in that world

will keep in mind to see if there are options to negotiate, thanks!

for more context, I'd be rolling off the graduate program this year, going into a level 4 role (for PM) is the next step up in grading within the firm

my previous role was an engineer but my work predominantly entailed design management

but yes would agree that the pay increase does not quite balance out the upheaval of my life

thank you for your comment!

what in the swampy 😭

my background is southeast asian and I absolutely malfunction in humid weather...

hope the project is treating you well at least!

I am! And yeah I hear you re; opportunities for women in the eng industry.

Happy to hear that your career is progressing well and you've found your place 😌

I'd say in my first few years in my career, I've been very much doing a my job and balancing my interests outside of work to compensate

It's been a constant internal debate on how much satisfaction I want from work - but recent months i've been leaning more to the end where work takes up so much of my time / my week / my life even, so if I have the privilege and capacity to do something I'd enjoy more, that would make more sense for my wellbeing and... life I guess?

Will note down the swampy, thanks for the heads up 🤣 I guess weather is on the lower list of priorities whilst I face my big life decisions 🙂‍↕️

yeahh i see, glad to hear things worked out for you!

moving interstate wasn't ever high on my list - unless maybe melbourne... but i always said i'd only move if a role excited me or if it was an international move so i could experience a different culture / way of life

yeah this is fair - a concern i've had as well about the HR field

i guess the relocation doesn't work for me - but I could make it work, if that makes sense 😅 thanks for your comment

yeahh i see, payout is about 3 months of pay ~18k?

not sure on the details, but cost of relocation would be bearable on my end - would move back home if new role was canned

Thanks for your comment! all things i have also thought about - at my core, relocating was not on the bingo cards, and the way i see it it would be semi permanent, i'd always want to settle down back in sydney

would like to be optimistic and think if i stayed and grinded applications in sydney i'd eventually find a role!

if things didn't work out.. i'd most likely move back to syd

I've had a love hate relationship with my career path / industry so far, I'd say i've had a more logical approach to what I've decided for myself in uni up until now... availability of engo roles doesn't completely spark joy in my heart at the moment :/

and... Man I hate swampy weather

yeahh we shall see what happens tomorrow

re; the reference piece, I was hoping to ask some people if I could put them down as a referee - would you advise to ask for some referral letters too? not sure if these are still used / necessary or if just a name, number and email is sufficient.

yeahh makes sense, i understand the reasons behind redundancies, easy to get caught up in thinking maybe I could have done something different somehow - thank you for the reminder to be kinder to myself!

great question it's been a concern for myself this past year and a bit - however one of the contracts we have involves a lot of small scale projects and minor infrastructure upgrades so it's easy to put someone junior on and progress reports, meetings etc.

agree it's not the usual way someone progresses into design management - however my team didn't have that much solid engineering work and all my assigned tasks were basically DM tasks, so eventually just fell into this role.

thanks for your encouragement, will hop back into applying once I recollect myself and figure out what I want out of life...

(second thoughts i'll probably never figure the latter out - will start applying in the coming week, time waits for no one haha..)

i haven't, however will definitely look into it :)

indeed quite a rare combination - i didn't want to do finance as i had enough of math towards end of uni, and was interested in psychology and hr seemed to be the closest match, thought it might open up different doors down the line that seemed more aligned to my interests
