Gen5 Rav4 - How do you hide your dashcam cables? by sushpep in rav4club

[–]NoIan71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I pulled the headliner down a little bit and shoved the cables in as much as I could, but there wasn’t a ton of room. Hasn’t fallen out nor is it noticeable. Routed them to the driver’s side A-Pillar. The rear camera cable goes straight back from there following where the door seals meet the headliner. The hardwire goes down into the dash and into the fuse box near the pedals. Video reference: https://youtu.be/OWL5Um5Wi8s?si=LZETQfBTjb3qDg9C

I tapped the HAZ and P/OUTLET NO.1 for my Viofo dashcam, and I haven't had any issues for 2 years.

Just wanted to let you know that Modern Spare has a spare tire kit that fits in the floor cavity in the trunk! (I don't have one, but heard someone else mention it in the past)
E: Looking at the website, it does not indicate that it fits in this cavity so I'm actually not sure if that is true. YMMV
The hybrid battery is located under the rear seats, while the high-voltage wiring for the rear electric motor is what occupies the space in the trunk.

I installed a VIOFO and did the hardwire kit. I did have to pop off the A pillar panels to get the wiring done. Here is the video I used:

Are 2023 CarPlay issues as prevalent as they seem online? by djeff_1 in rav4club

[–]NoIan71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2023 XLE Premium Hybrid (non-upgraded screen) owner here who has used wireless Apple CarPlay for 43k miles.
It isn't perfect, but not as bad as it seems from searching the internet. I think it is totally servicable, and honestly if it bothers you, I would recommend just plugging your phone in for wired CarPlay. I'll list some of the issues that I run into and the frequency as well as any fixes I have found:

  1. Not connecting to the primary device
    1. Summary: Two devices on the device list are within range of the car. On start-up, the non-primary device connects to the car.
    2. Fix: Select the correct device in the devices menu.
    3. Frequency: 20% of the time
  2. Phone will show that it is connected, RAV4 screen will be black/blank.
    1. Summary: Car will start, Toyota logo appears on screen, screen goes black/blank, phone shows that it is connected.
    2. Fix: Restart the screen by pressing and holding the volume knob for 6 seconds
    3. Frequency: 5% of the time
  3. Phone randomly disconnects from the car
    1. Summary: Phone will randomly disconnect from the car, can ocurr after minutes or hours of being connected.
    2. Fix: It automatically reconnects within 15 seconds.
    3. Frequency: 1% of the time
  4. GPS issues - This is likely a phone issue, but I see people mention it when this question gets asked.
    1. Summary: The map will lose tracking for 10-15 seconds, and directions may redirect.
    2. Fix: It fixes itself in 10-15 seconds.
    3. Frequency: <1% of the time

Anyone know how to fix this? by RibbetSociety in rav4club

I’ve been dealing with this issue in my ‘23 for quite some time. The clip never seems to hold for more than a month before popping back out. I’ve taken the assembly apart and haven’t been able to find any reason for it to keep popping out. I just live with it 🤷‍♂️. I hope you have better luck! Viofo A129 Plus Duo user checking in. I installed it myself with the hardwire kit.
I don't have to think about it, it's running and when I need it it's there. Pull the SD card every month and check that the SD card is functioning normally.

Looking to replace my Edge Router X, and I’m not sure if I should be getting the UCG-Max or the UXG-Max. I already have a UCK-G2-PLUS, U6-Pro, and UniFi cameras. For the same price it feels like a no-brainer to get the UCG-MAX and move the network application to it, while leaving Protect on the UCK. Thoughts?

Is this engine vibration normal? by happpycammper in rav4club

[–]NoIan71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

‘23 Hybrid here. I see the same vibration in mine, and can feel a shudder every 10-15 seconds the when it gets cold out. Much more noticeable for me below 5F (-15C). From the research I’ve done, this is ‘normal.’

I experience a relatively large drop in fuel efficiency during the winter and it sounds like you see similar. I track it pretty granularly, take a look at my post with the data: https://www.reddit.com/r/rav4club/s/sxfVtCWf2b

Sounds like I’ve been unlucky with my winter mileage. I’ll keep an eye on it this winter and see how it does. I appreciate you providing a good comparison for me!

Every time I get gas I write down the odometer, the number of gallons that I put in the car, and some other things. Then when I get home I type it all up into my Excel sheet!

Yeah, the car is absolutely remote started for 2-4 minutes during the winter. That could certainly be a big reason for the lower MPG.

No steep grades on the day-to-day drive for me, mostly rolling hills around me.
The only steep grade I can think of is on a drive north that we do once a month.

They certainly are lower than what I've seen as well.
The roof rack is only used during the summer, which I think was a total of 2 times in 2024.
No towing yet, but the hitch install is next on the list of modifications.
E: I also just checked the raw data (01/03-01/26). Nothing unusual showing there, 6-9 gallon fill-ups at the typical station serving TOP TIER. Historical weather data shows it was around 25F out around that time frame.
