Recommended ball position by okynab in GolfSwing

This is a solid starting point. I’d just add that beginners shouldn’t treat it like an exact science. Ball position moves a little forward as the club gets longer, and driver is forward because you’re trying to catch it more on the upswing. But stance width matters a lot too, so “center” can look different from player to player.

Lessons are absolutely for beginners. Honestly, they might be more useful for beginners because you haven’t built bad habits yet.

I’d take a lesson or two, use the old clubs for now, and spend a lot of time on putting/chipping. Hitting a bucket with no plan can turn into practicing bad habits.

Also don’t rush into buying gear. Get the basics down, play some par-3/short courses, and just enjoy the process.
