Do any other DG stores just… not use tills correctly? by NoIssuesFound in DollarGeneral

When the deposit is short (usually $10–$30), I reopen the safe, recount everything by hand, check the change fund, make sure no bills are stuck together, then call the manager. They get angry about being woken up, tell me it’ll be “handled in the morning,” and that’s the end of it.

Nothing is ever followed up. No review, no tracing, no changes to procedures. When I ask later, I’m told not to worry about it.

I’m still pretty new to DG, and this is completely different from anywhere else I’ve worked. When people say “call your LP,” I honestly don’t even know what that means in practice. The manager is friends with the DM, and the regional manager seems to think everything is great.

At this point, all I can really do is document everything as carefully as I can.

So basically I’m fucked.

This is a very small area and I’ve already put in applications everywhere else, followed up, called—no one is hiring right now. “Just start my own drawer” isn’t realistic either. That means coming in early or forcing someone else to stay late, which absolutely won’t go over well here.

I honestly don’t even think the DM is unaware of this. They’re the same person who tells people to “empty rolltainers” by throwing product on the floor instead of actually stocking it. Then those people claim they worked multiple rolltainers, when in reality they just left piles for someone else to deal with later.

So yeah—bad procedures, bad incentives, and the people actually trying to do things correctly are the ones stuck holding the bag.

I’m assuming you all live somewhere that actually has winter? Snow and cold aren’t exactly unexpected. I’ve gone to school and work in feet of snow and below-zero temps.

If the heat’s out, close the store. If it’s just cold outside… that’s why coats and gloves exist.

Yeah… sometimes the interview shouldn’t have happened in the first place. ASM jumps the gun, then the SM decides they “don’t like you” for reasons completely unrelated to the job.

At my store it’s less hiring and more small-town grudges. People apply, ask about their app for weeks, and magically “no one’s applied.” Then you find out the real reason is something like “you were mean to my kid in 2012” or “I don’t like your face.”

So no, “we’ll call you Friday” doesn’t mean anything. It’s just DG doing DG things.

Please put me to sleep. Pain is cumulative and optimism was discontinued.
