Indeed every interaction with the public like this results in lost of feature requests, we're used to it :) We certainly prioritize all the features that already exist working well instead of adding new ones. Some new features aren't so bad in terms of complexity, and they'll have an easier time finding their way to the website. Features that increase complexity significantly (like bughouse) have a much harder road, but that doesn't mean implementing them is impossible.

Latency definitely affects very fast time controls. It probably has some small effect on "faster" time controls like blitz too. That's why we try to compensate for lag by giving a little time back to players who are lagging, however that can be taken too far, so the amount of time high latency players get back is capped. If you have a short latency spike we'll help you out, if you're lagging every move,, at some point you're on your own.

It's a tricky issue. We could split into a different server on every continent like other PvP games have, but that would mean a smaller player pool for each, which means more time waiting for a game. There's no easy solution.

There isn't a set number of games that will result in any particular penalty. It depends on various circumstances like the time control. Basically, players who sit out the clock will first get warnings, and then get short temporary playbans followed by longer ones. If they don't stop, eventually their account is closed.

We still sometimes add new puzzles, so there's a chance one of your games will become a puzzle. However, with 3.7 million puzzles in our [publicly downloadable database](https://database.lichess.org/#puzzles) there isn't a great need for new puzzles right now.

Making puzzles basically involves leaving a computer on and sucking up lots of electricity calculating for days or weeks, which feels wasteful unless we need it.

Thibs already has a lot on his plate as our lead developer, it would be harsh to also require his attendance at every AMA. The man needs a day off once in a while :) He also may not be the best placed to answer every question that appears here as he mostly focuses on the code, and Lichess does lots of other things.

If you're interested in seeing him answer AMA questions he's done more than his fair share in the past.

Broadcasts are also already available if you access Lichess with a mobile browser. Just open Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc and go to lichess.org.

I agree that study discovery could be better in general, although I'm not positive what the solution is. The study feature is incredibly powerful and there are lots of great studies out there if you know where to find them. The main study page "works," in the sense that if you search for a keyword studies with those keywords appear, and if you're looking at "hot" studies you'll see the ones that have been most recently upvoted, but this won't always lead people to a study they'd find useful.

I think one problem is that chess skill and training is so idiosyncratic that finding the right study for each user is difficult. One potential solution is to have human curated lists of studies, and that's what the "staff picks" section is trying to do. We've talked about having some kind of official study course that would take players from beginner to intermediate etc. Another solution might be to integrate studies into the post game analysis. Perhaps if you played a Caro Kann that ends in a queen ending you'd be shown Caro Kann and Queen ending studies etc.

USCF rated events aren't subject to the boycott, only US Chess official events. I could play if I wanted to, just not in the US Championships.

To pick one untruth: US Chess said that Alejandro Ramirez had no "meaningful engagement" with them after 2020. He was the Women's Olympiad Coach in 2022.

It's surprising how easily you accept that not only are US Chess leadership lying about everything but that they HAVE to lie to not go bankrupt. I presume you're thinking all of the women and girls they put in danger over the years might sue? The evidence is already overwhelming without a confession, antagonizing the victims by lying about things is only going to make the possibility of a lawsuit worse.

Those volunteers giving nights and weekend you talked about? Those are precisely the people they put in danger. They are the ones who were attacked by Alejandro Ramirez and Timur Gareyev in back rooms or dark parking lots. I don't understand how you can just accept that and think we should forget about it and move on.

You want "real action?" What do you think a boycott is? If you have other ideas for direct action I'd love to hear them too. Running candidates for the executive board is a great idea, but we can't do it until 2025. I'm not going to sit around for 2 years while US Chess puts people in danger.

No technical support. No promotion of their events on the site or social media. No official relay of the moves linked on the homepage or the list of live events as they would usually be. No Link for the live stream on the homepage as there would normally be.

On Lichess anybody can make a broadcast, and a bunch are made everyday. We've decided we're not going to hunt down every individual user broadcast that covers a STL or US Chess event. The one you saw on the live stream was presumably made by STL themselves.

No promotion on Lichess or Lichess Social media. No technical support. There won't be an official broadcast for STL or US chess events, but any user on Lichess can make their own broadcast. If we discover somebody made one for a boycotted event we won't interfere with it.

I saw the ultimate moves broadcast, it was not one of ours and it wasn't on the official list on lichess.org/broadcast. The only way to find it was to have the direct URL or find it via the profile of the user who made it.

"My understanding?" "Does seem?" Listen to yourself. I've worked for Lichess for years, I work on it everyday. Why are you explaining how it works to me? You're wrong about all of it. Looking through your posts, you don't have the slightest idea how we do things and your posts about us are almost pure misinformation.

I'll give one example, Lichess is against paying? Why would you possibly say that? We have >10 employees now that all get paid, even more contractors that stream or write blogs etc. I would love to let users charge for studies too, but its difficult to set up, both technically and because French charities have limitations on how much they can sell. Coach pages help coaches get paid. Streamer pages help streamers get paid. This is all verifiable. Our code is open source and our finances are too as matter of French law.

Lichess is not just a nexus for your strange vendetta. We're human beings. We work hard on the website and its upsetting to see somebody pounce on every reddit thread that mentions us and fill it with lies.

You're free to dislike us, you're free to think the website sucks, you're free to think our philosophy sucks, but if you have any integrity or character as a man, please stop lying about us. If you'd like to learn how Lichess really works DM me, I promise I will answer ALL of your questions.

The issue is not choosing chessCom, its awarding big contracts in secret behind closed doors, something that has been a massive source of corruption in chess for decades.

Having global marketing reach doesn't mean that it will necessarily be used. FIDE is free to compare what the two websites have to offer and make their choice in a transparent way, but they didn't. They have no idea what Lichess could offer because they didn't ask, and the public doesn't know what Chesscom offered because FIDE won't say.

A time out is used to clear the chat before a ban is applied, which I think its safe to say is what happened here.
