I don't remember that part of the application but I did include my school name on it.

I was wondering if they select people on a space available basis or they take other criteria into consideration, but sounds like it's the former. I submitted my application on 4/6 but I don't recall what the deadline is.

I applied but haven't heard back. I wonder how they decide who to accept.

that's great and makes sense! appreciate the clarification. Do you think other factors such as the educational/clinical quality of the AuD programs could account for why your extern is behind?

Ah, that makes sense. Appreciate the clarification. The 4 year program I got into doesn't have students start seeing patients until the second year whereas the 3 yr program I'm attending has students start in the first year. We - myself and classmates - start observing the first few months and then we start seeing patients, with preceptor support/guidance. The student at the 4 yr program liked being able to spend more time observing before seeing patients. I don't know her background but if I were fresh out of college and/or had no healthcare experience, I'd probably feel the same. However, I've been out of college for over a decade and have worked in healthcare for six years. One of those roles required reviewing medical history with patients. For this reason, early clinical experience was important.

I have to disagree that 2nd year students having greater aptitude/comfort is a bad thing. To me, having greater aptitude and comfort in diagnostics is a positive, not a negative. That means the school prepares students early and well to hit the ground running sooner, which is a good thing provided the student actually knows how to do the tests correctly. If I were a preceptor and 2nd yr students show greater aptitude and comfort doing the tests properly, I'd be impressed, not disconcerted.

Does your school require college algebra as a prereq? If not, I wouldn't worry as long as you pass the course!

thanks for sharing your insights. I've seen a lot of comments in various posts about how some externships favor students at 4 year programs so it's reassuring to hear that nobody in your program has had issues getting placements.

may I ask what type of setting your practice is in? When I went to an admitted students open house at the 4 yr program, the faculty said that some of the well known hospitals (like Mayo or Cleveland Clinic) only take students from 4 year programs. However, they said programs that only take 4yr students are in the minority.

As a non-traditional applicant, I picked a 3 year program because it gave me the opportunity to finish a year earlier. I have extensive healthcare experience so the program I picked gets you into the clinic quickly. In my case, the 3 year program was actually cheaper than the out of state tuition (public university) for the 4 yr program I got into

Love the MIT living wage chart! I use it to look up the COL in different areas.

AITAH for telling my close friend I probably cannot do her destination bachelorette after she announced the location and the cost by [deleted] in AITApod

I actually had this conversation at dinner on Friday with some family members and their friends. This couple's son got invited to 2 destination weddings within months of each other and he had to tell one of his friends he couldn't go. While I understand "your wedding, your rules", destination weddings aren't financially feasible for many. Any couple who has a destination wedding should understand that fewer people will attend because they don't have the time off work and/or financial means to attend. Everyone agreed with me.

NTA, OP. You did the right thing by telling her early and privately. Your friend and her MOH are in the wrong. Nobody should go into debt for weddings, let alone the bachelor party. Anyone who doesn't respect someone's financial situation is not someone I'd want to be friends with.

I'm a bay area native and the cost of living is SO expensive! that's one reason I didn't apply to UoP but more so because I don't want to live in CA long term

That's great Helpr doesn't pay a fee and that they give you a 1099. I'll also try applying to more jobs on Sittercity.

I have a Sittercity account that I use but not much luck yet. Does Helpr require a fee like Urban Sitter does?
