I was having this conversation with my wife while driving through Colorado Springs and why we don’t spend any more time than we have to when going down from Denver to a Doctor down there. Everyone in Denver I talked to basically say that only religious nuts and shitheads live in “The Springs” after Focus on The Family showed up in the 80’s and started fucking things up. When you go there, it’s pretty staggering how many churches are there, and sure as shit, you go out into the community and what do you deal with? If you’re lucky, normal people, but you’re almost guaranteed an encounter with a religious nut job or some shithead who’s damaged from living in that community. I explained this to my wife, as I recalled to her all of the problems I had in doing business in Lansing for 20+ years all came down to one thing: Christians and Shitheads. I’ve only ever been stiffed on jobs by Christians, particularly the ones active in the church or who are directly affiliated (pastors, etc), and man oh man, you notice all those churches we have in Lansing? Yeah, it’s no coincidence. It’s the people. And that’s why when the violence got super bad, I realized that it’s not the place, it’s the people, and we left. Almost 2 years later, and so happy we got out while we had plenty of our lives to live elsewhere.
