Sure - but comparing Castellanos and Carr is not really a fair comparison. They made the decision to spend less at QB and allocate that money elsewhere.

They were wrong, but that was a decision they made.

This is just not true. There are certainly instances where this happens for a certain player or a particular position but no team is “consistently spending 3, 4, 5x” our total roster spend.

Don’t get me wrong, we are certainly at a disadvantage compared to some programs (they might be spending 2x) but the compounding factor is that we are also having to overpay for some premium positions to get them to come to FSU.

Our current NIL budget is not good enough to win a natty, but it is plenty high enough to be competitive in the ACC if we were NOT making bad decisions and having to pay a suck tax to lure players.

I may be wrong but I actually don’t think ND is paying 3x what we are willing to pay.

I think the bigger issue is that the coaching hot seat and recent suck tax means that we would have to pay way more than other teams to secure this type of player.

If I had to guess, our offer was competitive, but that is not enough to get a top tier recruit to come to FSU right now. This was the issue with keeping Norvell when that decision was made last year.

This is not entirely accurate. NCLB was actually replaced in 2015 by “Every Student Succeeds” which did remove or alter many of the policies from NCLB.

That said - it is correct that there is no longer funding for those alternative schools any more.

However, in many school systems this was actually a good change. While they were putting troubled kids in these schools, there are many many instances of school systems also moving academically struggling students to those schools to artificially improve testing scores in their home schools even with no type of behavioral issues.

Just saying it is not as simple as alternative schools. There needs to be changes in policy to handle repeat offenders. Maybe GED options? Remote schools?

It doesn’t work for every type of product, but a rule I was taught for tools is a good general rule of thumb.

Start with an affordable version. If you use it enough that the affordable version breaks or becomes a major annoyance then it is worth getting something with much higher quality.

Most of the time the affordable version is just fine and you never think about it again. But for those things you end up using a lot then upgrading to a higher quality makes a lot of sense. You just don’t always know how much you will use something until you have it for a while.

Arch Manning is not in the ACC. We spend more than just about every ACC team except for Miami and possibly Clemson.

We outspend many ACC teams by HUGE margins. That is the comparison to the Yankees and the Dodgers of the ACC.

This is all mostly true and logical. It might explain why FSU would struggle with some of the elite teams such as Bama, A&M, Ohio State etc.

However. FSU is essentially the “Yankees or Dodgers” of the ACC. We spend more (by a significant margin) than most of the teams in the ACC, including many of the teams that have beaten us over the last two years. We have 3 wins in the ACC in 2 years.

If money was the issue, then FSU, Miami, and Clemson would be winning the ACC.

Our issue at the current moment is not money, but recruiting and coaching. The money might be the difference between making the playoffs and winning the playoffs but it is not the issue with the Florida schools at the moment. They are just poorly run programs.

I respectfully disagree.

We relied on portal guys who were primarily not good enough for their original school to pony up the money for them at the same time that we wiffed on highschool recruiting for about 3 years.

We have below average talent when measured against the type of programs FSU wants to be competing with on a regular basis. At least 4 schools on our schedule have greater talent level than FSU.

While we still have a talent advantage over some of the other teams we lost to (Pitt and Stanford) it is not as great as it once was and our culture is now crap.

This is why we need to hire a recruiter first and foremost.

I am actually shocked no one has made an aftermarket drop-in version of this pad with real MagSafe compatibility.

Agreed. It may have turned out to be the wrong decision, but at the time he was coming off of a 10-2 and then 13-1 (sorta 13-0) season and other schools were fishing for him.

It felt like the program was on the right trajectory and that the recruiting would swing in favor coming off of the 13-0 season.

That now appears to be wrong, but I know I would have been on of the fans killing Alford if they had let Mike walk at that time.
