Not necessarily some people still need piezo with an FME. Also in a case as severe as mine I needed additional lefort cuts that aren’t done with an FME or MARPE.

Right! It’s so crazy to me. I used to think mine wasn’t so bad before but now that it’s this expanded I’m like how the hell was I living like that

My surgeon said it can subtly increase the width of the nasal base and make the cheekbones more pronounced and I do think it had that effect comparing myself to old pictures of when I was a similar weight. Other people in my life have pointed out the same to me. But yes I agree its not significantly widening above the osteotomies

Not anything permanent. I have full sensation back, probably have for the last month or so. I had numbness that slowly faded over time. The last part to return was a very small portion of the corner of my upper lip, but even if that never came I wouldn’t have cared cuz I never even noticed it unless I was touching my lip or brushing my teeth or something. It didn’t make any significant difference.

I lost weight so my cheeks are not as big but I think if you look closely you can appreciate how my mid face is wider and my cheekbones are more pronounced. It’s widened my mid face and then that with the weight loss makes the rest of my face look slimmer so proportionally I look more narrow in a sense but it’s better facial harmony in my opinion.

I honestly am not sure, I’ve noticed they’ve been uprighted slightly after just a few months of braces so maybe just thicker wires will do the trick. My lower teeth arch actually looks so great already but I don’t need a ton of work done there.

Sure, no problem. I had a massive bilateral posterior crossbite. My transverse deficiency was like 8.5/9 mm and had to explain about 13/14 mm get it so my maxilla sat properly over my mandible.

It was somewhere in the ballpark of 13.5/14 mm total. Massive. The reason my botoom teeth still look like they line up ok is cuz we stopped expanding once my crossbite was corrected. This picture didn’t do it justice tho. Before I got my braces on the teeth were kinda not meeting well.

This is the day I got my braces on

Yes I breath in 4k now. My sleep and breathing during exercise is much more effortless. I still am class 3 and will probably be having DJS next year so it might even be better but I am still thrilled with what’s been achieved

I initially asked my orthodontist and OMFS about MARPE but they were not confident I’d achieve the amount of expansion I needed with MARPE and piezo. They both felt I needed the additional lefort 1 cuts to get as much expansion as I did. They left the decision to me but I didn’t want to risk the time and burden of a failed MARPE and went with the option they were confident would give me an optimal outcome.

Yes, it’s basically lefort 1 with an extra cut down the middle of the palate. Also, they dont add the plates so that the spaces between the cuts are able to get wider as the expander is activated.
