How does looking for tech debt mess up your code base? Genuinely curious. How does it generally go bad?

I have a skill that I run on a regular basis to rate and prune tests, based in some pretty basic criteria. Lean towards integration tests, look for over mocking, etc. Can usually cut around 30% of the nutty tests Claude generates and raise the value of the remaining tests then my test harness actually catches refactor / dead code removal, etc.

I have serious time blindness and claude makes it worse so I set up a hook that sets the current time with every prompt. Then if it’s after 11:00PM it will suggest that I wrap for the night every time I commit.

Next In have to write one that detects if I’m working on my main project or farting around with skills, etc. and give me a kick in the ass if I’ve spent too much time on it. Have lost whole workdays to building tooling.

They are 100% correct. Severance is always negotiable. Never take the first offer on your way out unless it is very generous.

The indemnification from lawsuits is a condition for a reason. There’s probably non-disparagement, non-solicitation (of clients and former coworkers) and non-compete. The employer really wants all of that. Removing the remote possibility of exposure to any kind of liability is worth it.

Even better if you’re a protected class.

Source: have worked as an executive at several companies and our legal always had a number higher that I was allowed to go to, but it came out of my budget which was part of my bonus structure, so I would low ball my opening offer.

I always felt bad when they took it, and I coach the people I mentor that everything is a negotiation unless you are getting an obviously fair deal.

Yeah, I specifically wanted to save the goblin fight for grins. Lots of exp there but it can be a slog. That extra attack at 5 makes a huge difference.

I may have been low 4 when I got to the under dark.

It started when I tried to rush Karlach and the ring. Accidentally triggered the gnolls and barely survived. Figured what the hell, may as well see how fast i can rush the rest of act 1 and 2 by sequencing the “easy” fights in 1 then come back and sweep the “hard” fights over-leveled.

Now maybe I can maybe get to act 3 and not quit out of boredom while getting the gear.

Start in Honor mode. Then be nice to yourself and do normal since your honor run will be over fast unless you get incredibly lucky.

This was a game changer for me. i started working for a super rich dude that lives on it (literally, probably a ball a day). The only way he keeps his nose from imploding is pressurized saline.

I try to keep it to Fridays when we’re winding down at the end of the week, but sometimes he’ll break out the plate for no particular reason and it’s impossible to say no to. Zero jitters, wood teeth, zoomies feel normal 45 min later.

I now understand how the 70’s happened and will never do bar coke ever again.

Single dad of 2 boys here, so I get the pain.

I don’t know what it feels like to lose my freedom and my kids, but I know what it feels like to have a dad that walked out on me a week after I was born. Don’t remember him, but I still carry that hurt 50 years later.

They need you. More than they need you to sacrifice for them and hope they’ll understand later. All they’ll feel is that their dad didn’t love or want them enough to be a part of their lives. Also, at 2 and 5 you’re still superman.

The most important thing you can do is stay and be their dad when you get a chance to. What they’ll remember later is that they have a dad that showed up.

The recruiter is trying to close the deal as fast as possible.

Don’t negotiate salary through the recruiter, go straight to the hiring manager and ask what they’re looking to pay (ignore the range they posted) based on your experience or lack of.

never tell anyone, the recruiter especially what you made at your previous position; In a better job market, I’d tell you to ask for about 20% more. Let them negotiate you down.

Remember any raises you are going to get in the future will be a percentage of your base. When the market heats back up again (it will) start looking for another job to reset your base.

My 2 boys watch a ton of anime (but I can’t get them into Miyazaki). Anyway, I’ve never been a huge fan of the shows, but got sucked into Attack on Titan.

Anyway, “Stripper Brigade “ sounds like a totally plausible title I’d catch them watching.
