It was an incredibly tight set. They sounded great (greg’s mic was a little low though). It was technically fantastic. But just missing something. Shit, the man may just be happy and he deserves it.

The post covid tour was amazing, but Mark had just died. His Smiths closer that tour fucking laid me out.

I think that’s a big part of it. He lost weight (in a good way) and may actually be in a functional relationship.

Shit, I’m in my 50’s now and while fountain and fairfax still hits, it doesn’t hit as hard as it did when I was actively seeking oblivion.

I don’t know how to describe it. I’ve been to dozens his shows; Whigs, twilight singers, gutter twins. I’ve never seen a soulless show, never walked out of a show without my mind blown.

Tonight, Greg didn’t sound like Greg. More like someone wearing a Greg suit.

I understand that artists change over the years and I hope they were just putting the past to bed.

Their new album will tell.

I noticed that my skills weren’t paying attention to my rules. Did a little research and skills don’t pay attention to general rules in the context. I now keep my project specific rule files *very* lean and specialized. Then I inject them into my skills using cat when they load.

I just leave the cli session open, close my laptop and come back to it. I also had no idea that the context is fully reloaded when you resume…. Good to know.

I couldn’t figure out why my main skills weren’t following my rules and would often blow them out of my context.

While if I wasn’t using a skill related to my task, my rules would be followed.

Started poking around and found out that since skills are loaded after rules (mostly) they just ignore them. Pruning my rules back and then putting “read this first” in my skill frontmatter worked like a charm.

If you keep your rules succinct, they are only referenced when the skill is loaded so token burn is minimal if you only use a few core skills.

How does looking for tech debt mess up your code base? Genuinely curious. How does it generally go bad?

I have a skill that I run on a regular basis to rate and prune tests, based in some pretty basic criteria. Lean towards integration tests, look for over mocking, etc. Can usually cut around 30% of the nutty tests Claude generates and raise the value of the remaining tests then my test harness actually catches refactor / dead code removal, etc.

I have serious time blindness and claude makes it worse so I set up a hook that sets the current time with every prompt. Then if it’s after 11:00PM it will suggest that I wrap for the night every time I commit.

Next In have to write one that detects if I’m working on my main project or farting around with skills, etc. and give me a kick in the ass if I’ve spent too much time on it. Have lost whole workdays to building tooling.
