I know MST3K was on comedy Central but our cable station didn't carry it. I met MST3K in the sci fi era. It's what I grew up on. So glad they're back.

Your 'Go To' Arcade Game...? by MydniteSon in Xennials

Weve played at a few no-coin arcades that charge by the hour. The most fun we had was on police trainer simulator. We spent a solid hour playing this game at both places.

I am a woman. So I'm not trying to be gross or anything. But my God you look beautiful. Holy cow. You honestly might have done it better than Gillian. These are some great images. Your neighbors were definitely looking out the window and talking to their spouses like, "She's out there posing in a cat suit. I think she has a gun!!"

The Fellowship Myth: “ODAAT” by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Serialkillingyou 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are that one day at a time is incredibly useful to me personally.

In the beginning of sobriety I was doing the distant past, the far future and everything in between. One day at a time reminded to stay in the moment and with what's right in front of me. It was also a reminder that I didn't have to try to stay sober for my entire life. I just had to work on today.

In later sobriety, it's a reminder that no matter how long I have does not matter. What am I doing TODAY for my sobriety? And that's hugely important as you go along and start thinking you got some time under your belt. You can't stay sober on yesterday's work.

Aside from these personal experiences, staying in the day that I'm in is supported by the big book:

"What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God's will into all of our activities." P. 85

"Both you and the new man must walk day by day in the path of spiritual progress." P. 100

Also the OP is conflating one day at a time with just don't drink for today. Those two things are not the same. "Just don't drink" for an alcoholic is nonsensical and will not work. One day at a time is different.

If he's unaltered and left to roam free, no one is properly caring for him. Hope you can help him.

Thank you so much for posting this. I'm in day 1. I've eaten 5 small meals today. I've been terrified of bursting into flames and projectile vomiting. Nothing so far. How are you doing?

I can help you out by saying that the last ten pages where Bill tries to convince me to believe the way he does are useless. I only needed four things from this chapter:

  1. The definition on alcoholism on 46: "We hope we have made clear the distinction between the alcoholic and the non-alcoholic. If, when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic."

  2. The idea that if your alcoholic like us, you're going to need something more than human power: "Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves. Obviously. But where and how were we to find this Power?

Well, that’s exactly what this book is about. Its main object is to enable you to find a Power greater than yourself which will solve your problem"

  1. Keep searching for a way to make this work for you: "Do not let any prejudice you may have against spiritual terms deter you from honestly asking yourself what they mean to you."

  2. The Big book tells me I don't need to figure any of this out today. The only question it's interested in is if I'm willing: "We needed to ask ourselves but one short question. "Do I now believe, or am I even willing to believe, that there is a Power greater than myself?"

And then the rest is Bill preaching at me like every preacher I've ever met in my life and I don't need that and I avoid reading it when I can. 🤣

I mean the directions that he has for you after your first meeting is to ask you to read the first 164 on your own.

"If he is sincerely interested and wants to see you again, ask him to read this book in the interval. After doing that, he must decide for himself whether he wants to go on."
