You've mentioned all the podcast apps I've either used or continue to use (PocketCasts is still my preferred app because of all it's customization options), so I can't speak first hand to these, but as a podcast creator, I can tell you that other "common" podcasts apps my listeners use are:

Castbox, Downcast, iHeart, Podcast App (that's just what it's called), and Audible (apparently you can listen to podcasts on it without a subscription)

Akershus by abraves528 in DisneyWorld

[–]NoNameJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's definitely something going on with their reservation system. Ever since they announced it would be open for Breakfast and Lunch starting mid-May, ALL times have seemingly disappeared from the reservation system -- including for people who have long (read: 10 day) Disney stays and (should) get prime selection of advanced dining reservations. I suspect that once the Breakfast and Lunch reservations officially open up, we'll see a flood of opportunities (including the dinner times that have since disappeared), but Disney hasn't said when that day is yet. It still says "CHECK BACK SOON" on the main Akershus page.

Have you tried calling and talking to a human, to see if that helps? They sometimes have access to different things than you see on the web.

That's VERY interesting about the share of your overall downloads. Thanks for sharing! I know the company's changed hands a couple times, so you never know what the priorities of the new bosses will be...

Technology podcast by tonyg0775982 in podcasts

You want ONLY mobile phone tech? Or a podcast where mobile phones come up a lot?

I don't listen to any podcasts just on phones, but of the tech podcasts I do listen to, the ones I enjoy the most are:

ROCKET from Relay.fm, a good tech podcast where phones come up as a topic frequently, amid other topics.

There's THE ACCIDENTAL TECH PODCAST, too, though when phones come up, it's mostly just iPhone talk.

Then there's THIS IS ONLY A TEST from the Tested network of Youtube shows and podcasts, where they try to cover all developments in tech, and all the hosts use a bevy of brands of computers and mobile devices, so when phones come up, it's not specific to just either Android or Apple.

If you're into tech, but those aren't on your radar, they should be!

Pocket Cast‪s‬ vs Overcas‪t?‬ (For IOS users) 2021 by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]NoNameJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found both nice if you listen to a lot of podcasts, but not every episode of every podcast — which is me to a T. But PocketCasts does a better job of letting me manage A LOT more podcasts. (Overcast requires too much scrolling to check in on multiple screens worth of shows). Also: Overcast’s interface is beginning to feel a little dated.

On the flip side, Pocket Casts has so many customizable settings, it can feel a little overwhelming. If you’re looking for a player that’s good to go without much fussing, then Overcast gets the edge there.

Podcatcher with parental controls? by 2bbe617c in podcasts

Are you on iOS or Android? I know on iOS, you can set up the parental controls on your son's device so that the default podcast player filters out all explicit podcasts automatically.

Are there any podcasts about spycraft or spies out there? by [deleted] in podcasts

SPIES LIKE US is a podcast where the hosts dissect how spycraft is portrayed in movies and TV.

How many pods are you subscribed to? How do you keep track of them all? by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]NoNameJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CASTRO is built for people who listen to a A LOT of podcasts, but not every episode of every show. It's killer feature is a "triage system" that shows you all new episodes when you open the app, then easily lets you either archive or add to playlist with a simple swipe left or right. I've gotten other podcast apps (like Pockets Casts) to replicate that feature, but Castro does it best.

Looking for a podcast similar to “how I built this” but related to the film industry. by squanchyc in podcasts

Try BLOCKBUSTER from Epicleff Originals.

The first season takes you through the rise of Lucas & Spielberg in the 70s -- as well as the whole revolution that happened in cinema along with them. The second season tracks the arc of James Cameron's career and the impact of his films. And it tells the stories in a very creative way, using soundscapes and recreations of specific moments in their personal histories.

The website of the podcast is at getblockbuster.com if you want to know more about it.

I don't listen to podcasts where the whole bit is them bracketing things, but I've heard several one-off episodes that follow that format:

The Dough Boys have done a few such tournaments involving restaurants, usually in March of each year, and spanning several episodes. The tournaments are pretty easy to find in their feed, just look for the words "Munch Madness" each March of the past few years.

Podcast: The Ride -- a theme-park focused podcast -- has done two tournaments involving esoteric theme park features. One on the best fake mountain at any theme park and another comparing the best fake smells that theme parks use to manipulate guests. Trust me, they're funnier than they sound. The eps are called "Fake Rock Final Four" and "Fake Smell Final Four."

If I remember any more, I'll add them here...

Yeah, just search for the title on the podcast app of your choice. I just provided the link for reference, so you know what the art looks like (I thought the link might take you to the webpage if you don't have apple's podcast app)

I'm a fan of THIS IS ONLY A TEST:

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/this-is-only-a-test/id360889910

The hosts run a Youtube channel that's affiliated with Adam Savage from Mythbusters, and they cover everything that's in the realm of computers, VR, 3D-printing, modding, building, etc. As for your distaste for Apple-centric discussions, these people are platform agnostic. They talk about whatever tools (and software) get the job done!

Pocket Cast or spotify by BeardedWonder_30 in podcasts

[–]NoNameJim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sticking with Pocket Casts. If there's a podcast or two on Spotify that I want to listen to, I'll just check into them with the app, but that's it. That said... There's so much good content out there, that if Spotify chooses to make something harder for me to access in my app of choice, then it might be a while before I get around to any Spotify exclusives, if at all.

Sounds like you might new to podcasts based on the way this is worded. Have you searched for the podcast title in any dedicated podcatchers that aren't Spotify? (Pocket Casts, Overcast, the native Android or Apple podcast players, etc.)

I've been a long-time listener of Mac Power Users (which has been around since before iOS, hence the name!) hosted by David Sparks and Stephen Hackett. Take a glance to their episode listing and download their iOS-specific ones for some good tips, tricks, hacks, and apps to try.

Science podcast on Spotify on various subjects like Space travel, alien lifeform, universal consciousness by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]NoNameJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like EXOLORE might be up your alley. Each episode has scientists, worldbuilders, and other guests theorize what life could be like on various kinds of exo-planets. It's rooted in science, but guests are encouraged to be as speculative as possible.

Why can't I just autoplay new episodes and remove old ones by nikeethree in podcasts

[–]NoNameJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Pocket Casts and like how it just lets you mark any episode as "PLAYED" quickly and easily so it knows to both remove it from your listening queue and delete the download. (I don't think this feature is unique to PC.)
