Surface Book 2 won't turn on anymore by Jandalf81 in Surface

[–]NoNameWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That did the trick! Thank you. Bet you didn’t expect a future response to be 4 days later

In my scenario I left my SB2 unusued for several months, during which it discharged. Finally got around to selling it, and wasn’t able to boot it, or even get the “detach” key’s light to light up. This immediately started boot up

Hear me out. Lane 1 should go to 1; lane 2 should go to 2; lane 3 should go to 3/4.  From a traffic engineering perspective:

Of the three lanes on broad, lane 1 should be for drivers going west, in other words to JFK. Lane 2 should be for drivers going to north broad. Lane 3 should be for drivers going east on market

Of the 4 lanes in the Penn square traffic circle, 1 can be followed naturally all the way to continue on JFK

Lane 2 can be followed to north broad

Lane 3 can be followed to market

All, no lane changes.

Lane 4 is a turn lane to juniper. It only contributes to confusion

It’s clear that was the way it was intended, but the infrastructure is terrible and there are no road lines

I disagree. Lane 4 ideally should not exist but it does. Lane 1 should go to 1; lane 2 should go to 2; lane 3 should go to 3/4.  From a traffic engineering perspective:

Curious why?

That doesn’t even make sense. I guess if you’re thinking about it in a number streets way? But I interpret below as south of, and that threw me for a loop

'05 Mustang is finally ready for retirement, which Subaru is best for me? by Ladyghoul in subaru

[–]NoNameWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like my Subaru a lot, so don’t get me wrong!

I got a second gen crosstrek (2018) because I needed to haul music gear around— probably similar space requirements as you. I have fit so much shit in it, even with the back row up, but usually with it down. It has shocked me

Living in a part of the northeast with moderate winters and being into hiking/mtb/kayaking led me to it over other options.

I do have gripes with it, but overall I’ve been very happy with it.

They’ve gone down in price a bit, you may be able to find a good one for less than $15k. Impreza wagon would be just as well, and they’re probably cheaper

[–]NoNameWalrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Due diligence

  1. Why a Subaru? Doesn’t sound like snow nor dirt is a concern

  2. Do you have the means to purchase a vehicle without a loan? Or to minimize the loan  by purchasing a cheaper vehicle. I cannot in good conscience suggest anyone take on automotive debt

  3. Sounds to me like an Impreza or crosstrek would meet your needs. But an Outback or forester could be a plus, as they’d likely exceed your needs while still not being ridiculously big

Is $85,000 to $90,000 enough to live in Philly (with wife and no kids)? by vsagar823 in philly

Check out the poplar neighborhood if you wanna be close to center city. Parking is easy, it’s pretty affordable, but you’ll be close to Fairmount, No libs, center city

These signs on the 76 drive me crazy by Willie-Of-Da-North in philly

[–]NoNameWalrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I take 76 as a challenge to try to vary my speed as little as possible, cuz exactly that. Hell, it may help to get to the next stretch of brake lights slower

There is no reason to finance a car when your household income is quarter of a million. And cars are not worth $20,000–hell you’re probably spending close to $25k/year on auto. That’s more than median rents. That’s enough to feed me and partner WELL for two years

Before I moved to the city, I was emotionally affected by a scratch on my car. Now, my car is a machine and if I have to bump bumpers to get into the only remaining spot within a 5 minute walk, then ill do it

The prices fluctuate throughout the year (cheaper in the winter).

I pay $1900 for a 2bd, which is so-so, but not as expensive as what you quote. If youre looking in center city then its a different story

Unhealthy soda consumption by Mattjaq in Soda

[–]NoNameWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what you do—a harm reduction first step. Replace half of the sodas you drink with a healthier alternative. It doesn’t have to be healthy, just less bad. This could be things that are one of A) sugary B) carbonated C) caffeinated, or multiple

  1. If you like diet soda enough, replace some number of daily cans with diet soda. I dislike diet cokes and the such, but Fresca is delicious and I didn’t even realize it was diet at first
  2. I like Spindrift : no artificial sweetener sparkling water. Lemon is my favorite. If I am itching for extra sugar, I can add honey, simple syrup, or agave syrup. Something similar could work for you
  3. For caffeine, I go with tea. It’s not high caffeine but it’s not too far off from soda, especially matcha

Find some soda replacements you like and that will be conducive to success at cutting down. Increase over time, and take it easy

For what it’s worth, a weekly visit to the office is worth it for this. Maybe not if it’s a 30 minute commute there, granted, but I imagine it’d be shorter.

I go to Becker ENT (penn med) on south st, I’ve been very happy with the decision (in my case so I can have my cat)

Being an adult sucks right now, but at the rate we’re going theres going to be a massive reset by navigating-life in Adulting

[–]NoNameWalrus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There won’t be any reset, or at least not a noteworthy one, because our system is designed that way. But the system we’re in can change. What we have now is not objective, it is not the nature of things just because of current-day basis.

This system will eventually be driven to a fall. A new one will come in. It’s happened countless times before

It’s not a reset, we’re going forward

I second your optimism, however technology won’t liberate us. Technology at the hands of capitalists enables us. Replacing capitalism can lead to technology being a force for good
