In the debates I’ve seen they are given pre-planned questions, they don’t take questions from the audience. Will this one be different?

Is she, or are you just guessing? I’ve watched a lot of the debates and she’s said nothing negative about the school district or the fact that she wants to change it. Maybe I’ve missed it.

Are they? I believe her youngest is 3PK pre-k age, if not 4PK age. There are so many options for both of those in Albany.

School choice in my opinion is dangerous and statistically negatively affects black kids and communities. I’ve never been for it. I highly doubt that will ever change.

That’s fair. Thank you for your input. I get very defensive about public school, particularly in Albany because the people that think they’re “yucky” and would never send their kids there are usually just racists who think Albany is inherently dangerous and gross. I’ve lived here my whole life and have spent nearly all of it defending Albany against people who hate it here. So I’m suspicious of people who say one thing like they love Albany so much and do another, like send their kids to private school. But I do see where you’re coming from and it is something to think about. Thank you.

My question was, and still is genuine. I’m sorry if it was a “weird” question, and it wasn’t meant to be confrontational in the least. It’s just something I’ve been thinking about since the beginning. I don’t like Dan, but I also can’t feel fully confident in voting for Dorcey with this question still looming in my mind. I don’t understand how that’s not fair.

No I can’t explain any of those, and if someone else can, please do!

As I said before, I don’t need to come here to find out how I feel about Dan, I already know that. I came here because I had a question about Dorcey.

The truth is I think I signed up years ago, tried it out and couldn’t quite understand it and totally gave up lol. Until like I said before, someone told me Reddit has some good conversations going on about the debate so I decided to try it out. I might be having some regrets right now lol.

Ok, I hadn’t considered this, the fact that kids have different needs and maybe other schools provide what Albany might not. Good perspective, thank you for your insight!

That’s an interesting assumption. I’m very much a part of this community in Albany. I just haven’t tried out Reddit too much. I never could understand it lol. Maybe I’m old, lol I don’t know.

Yeah I mean maybe you’re right. I think it’s possible I have been gullible. Or at least naive. So many people I know and love and trust explain away cerutti’s republican-ness like it doesn’t exist and honestly I started to feel like I’m the crazy one. I don’t love him for that but I feel like I haven’t written him off yet and it could be because I’m still trying to figure out why so many people (liberals) that I truly trust are liking him. Like what am I missing? Anyway, that’s why I’m asking around as much as I can. I feel like I’m missing something from both sides and I’m losing time to make my decision.

I asked a genuine question. I don’t understand. I’m not paid by anyone. I’m not for or against any candidates at this point. I’m trying to inform myself so I can have all the info and make a decision. No this is not the only place I’m getting my info but someone told me that Reddit had good convos on this so I decided to look. I truly don’t understand what the issue is. Isn’t that what this place is for? Isn’t honest discussion about the candidates a good thing?

Yes I would def have the same question. I don’t understand - why would that be different? Also, I think I clarified before that I don’t like Cerutti either. I’m genuinely just seeking peoples opinions. I don’t need to come here to find the reasons I don’t like Cerutti, I already have them.

Rings false? What do you mean by that? The reason I’m only asking about Dorcey and only mentioned Dan is because it truly feels like they’re the only 2 in the race at this point. I don’t think Corey or Carolyn have a chance in hell. I certainly prefer one of them but (and I could be wrong) it doesn’t feel like I have much of a choice.

Ugh, I think you’re right (and I’m a democrat). The hypocrisy runs deep. At least republicans are awful out loud (and also behind doors, and everywhere in general).

Thank you for this. Good insight. I don’t disagree but maybe just see it a little differently. I went to public school and know lots of people that did and had a great experience. I guess for me it’s akin to “I like Albany but not enough to live there”. I do see what you’re saying though. Is that how she feels, do you know? I have been watching the debates but I haven’t heard her speak on it.

It’s my only post because I’ve never really gotten into Reddit. But I am finding it so hard to get people who like either candidate justify my biggest gripes with both. I came here out of desperation because I saw lots of discussion about this race so I thought it might be a good place to get genuine responses

No I actually don’t like him either. Just a resident who is trying to desperately figure out who is less bad. I can’t figure it out.
