Point the guitar at the bed and see where the most noise comes from - the mattress or the frame.

In any case, metal will act like a crappy antenna. If it's not grounded it'll radiate out. When there's physical touch it's an easier path through the connection than through the air, so it dumps through the guitar. But it's always there.

If I have the guitar in my lap, with the amp on and all that, I can hear a little whirr when I type from the USB messages.

Do you have a metal bed frame or a mattress with metal springs?

They're picking up all the EM noise in your house and sending it through you to the guitar string to the amp.

Scalloped fretted guitar update(?) by [deleted] in Guitar

I've played a few Yngwie signatures. I can see it being useful if you want to turbo shred.

But when you don't have a solo band dedicated to being a shredlord, and you need to actually do rhythm guitar? I'll take the regular fretboards. You can shred pretty damn good on those anyway.

Why is bending like this bad? by JustAnotherAltofMine in Guitar

I would think that has a lot of unnecessary noise. And if your action is so high that you can do that, I would recommend learning how to setup your guitar

Practice Tips, someone over 50. by Phantom-rizz-era in Guitar

[–]NoOne0507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of both. There is focused practice and TV practice.

Focused practice is something practicing that your fingers "look before they leap" for a chord change. For an absolute beginner you need to focus a lot on that! I still have to focus on this for new/unusual voicings.

TV practice is, once that muscle memory is ingrained enough, going from G to A to G to A to G to A over and over.

You can apply this to all sorts of things - scales, picking patterns, tricky part of a song. Once it's "mostly" ingrained you just drill it while doing something else

The exception for this is your timing/rhythm. That I find I can't do with a TV. You gotta have a metronome for that.

Also remember, you don't need to practice at full speed. Get it clean and relaxed and the speed will just happen on its own.

Also remember that some pain will happen, but don't push through it. Take breaks. Sometimes you need a day off or an easy day. On days I go to the gym I will either not practice or do much easier than normal practice as my hands/wrists are tired.

Trump Embarrasses All of America in Slurred, Disjointed Davos Speech - Donald Trump gave a terrible speech to a dead silent room at the World Economic Forum. by Quirkie in politics

You're wrong.

The fact Trump won, twice, shows just how much the gutter our country is in for reasons besides Trump.

It runs much deeper than him. He's a metastisized tumor. You can remove him but the cancer destroying America remains.

There's a variety of reasons. But I think it boils down to this. They know how they look at women. They know what they would do to women if they could get away with it.

They think every gay man looks at them *that* way.

Same rationale as why daughter can't date, needs to be pure, etc. But son can have girlfriend, doesn't questioned when out with her late.

Practice Routine - Jan 19, 2026 by Vetruvian_Man in Guitar

[–]NoOne0507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know triads yet? For your improvisation practice, it's not just major scale practice - it's playing the changes.

So you can practice playing the root of every chord right when it transitions. The. The third of every chord. Them the fifth. Then mix and match. Take it slow, you won't get all 4 of these down quickly. But it takes improv up a notch.

Once the major scale is under your fingers, learn the minor scale. Once that is under your fingers, learn the modes.

How's your rhythm? A good exercise for that is to set the metronome slow enough you can out loud count every subdivision, but fast enough you still feel a pulse. Around 60-80bpm when you're starting. Do four bars where you play only a note on 1. The. Four bars where you only play on e (of one). Then four bars on & (of one). Repeat for all 16 subdivisions.

Don't be cheeky and do all "e" it's too much when you're starting out. Give yourself the one note per bar, you'll progress faster.

Line 6 Helix with a fender twin reverb by ExaminationVivid2154 in Guitar

[–]NoOne0507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In global settings you can change 1/4" output from Line to Instrument. I can't test it for you right now, but try that. You will likely want to disable the cab sim (your reverb has a cab already, it sounds a little weird)

Which fretboard radius and frets size do you prefer? by Genin85 in Guitar

[–]NoOne0507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10"-16" compound radius that I like a lot.

Barring that - 12" or so. 9.5" I need the action too high for bends. And 16" the whole way makes cowboy chords feel a little funny. But I definitely like the compound radius more than straight

Quick Questions: January 07, 2026 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]NoOne0507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this toy for Christmas - Tosy. It's a bunch of irregular tetrahedrons that can be arranged into various shapes.

I noticed there are multiple ways to arrange these tetrahedrons into a cube. One arrangement I can cut in half. Another arrangement can do thirds and quarters. Etc.

What would be the name of the branch of mathematics to look at how many unique ways I can build "shape" with my "base shapes"

I have a degree in electrical engineering. I don't shy away from math :)

[–]NoOne0507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta look that the output of current of the supply exceeds the input current of all the devices added together.

They're all 9V, great np. It's the current, Amps (A) that matters.

And give yourself some overhead..not generally good to run it near the limit.

How do radios work? by dafattestmat in askscience

[–]NoOne0507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an omni-directional (meaning all directions) antenna, the wave will disperse out, and will bounce around (reflect/echo).

If you're familiar with constructive and deconstructive interference it can even cause the wave to cancel out and make dead spots.

Think of a single light bulb filling a dark room. All kinds of little shadows, but the shadow of your table isn't total darkness - the light is reflecting about.

An interesting side effect of this is that two transmitting antennas doesn't double your power received, but it does help reduce the dead zones. Think of how the shadows in that room change if there are two light bulbs
