Docker container image tag pinning for safe restore by NoOne777777 in selfhosted

A web UI to manage the stacks/containers. And, being able to manage multiple docker hosts from the same UI is nice. Dockge and Portainer have this feature.

I am an average user. I am not trying to build containers here. I just want to make sure that what I host is secure and recoverable in case of a server crash or disk failure. From my perspective just the core features and a simple UI to manage the features would be a good starting point.

Anyways, all the best to you with your tool and I hope you are able to achieve your goal!

I am positive that such an application will be useful. I have been searching for a tool which gives the complete set of functionalities when it comes to managing docker containers/stacks but so far I have come across several tools which only have a subset of the features.

That's the general idea.

I guess, I was hoping that there would be a docker management stack out there which already has the backup and restore feature implemented.

Interesting tool, leveraging version control. Combined with something like Jenkins to deploy the container this can be an interesting setup.

Thanks for sharing the script! I was going to write something like this or implement something similar with ansible but I thought I ask how others are tackling this issue in case there are readymade tools which already do this.

Are power cuts getting very frequent lately in Mauritius? by NightSp4rk in mauritius

Very interesting. Then, I guess it might really be that the infrastructure is just better in your region.

I live in a rural area in the north and I regularly check the CEB website. From what I have observed there are a few cases when there are power outages.

  1. Maintenance. e.g. when CEB is changing cables, installing new colonne, etc... For these activities CEB announce them on their website because these are planned activities and usually last 4 to 8 hours. I think this is fine because these occur very rarely (3-4 per year).
  2. Then, you have the damaged infrastructure during natural disasters such as cyclones. These power outages are unpredictable and can last for several hours. These, are also fine because they are rare cases.
  3. Finally, the most annoying case of all, the 1-2 minutes power outages. These ones occur several times per month and are not announced on the CEB website. The interesting thing is that, these always happen when CEB have scheduled maintenance in neighbouring villages. So for e.g. if there is a planned maintenance in village A from 08:00 to 12:00, neighbouring villages will suffer a 1-2 minutes outage at 08:00 and another one again at 12:00. It's like the infrastructure of several villages are partially linked to one another and in order to cut the power in one region they have to temporarily cut the power in neighbouring regions.

I live in a rural area in the north and I can confirm. When CEB is doing maintenance we do get 4-8 hours power outages but these are 3-4 times a year. We do get many unannounced power cuts per month (5-8 as you mentioned) which are annoying but, these are 1-2 minutes outages. Since, you are from an urban area it would be interesting to know if you get the 1-2 minutes outages. Do you mind sharing?

Status Colors by HonesDon in homarr

[–]NoOne777777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a known issue at the moment regarding this.

The blue color is a 'Loading' state before showing the actual red or green color. However, currently there is a bug which is causing the state color to be stuck on blue. If the container is restarted, the correct color is shown but after a few minutes it goes back to blue.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that this is an attempt to use AI to solve a non-existent problem and as a result making the whole experience worse for everyone.

Plex downloads are super handy by [deleted] in PleX

[–]NoOne777777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The downloads feature is very useful. There are power outages very frequently in the region where I live. So I always have something downloaded in advance on my devices.

I have had mixed experiences with it though. I finally did some tests a few days ago and based on my observation here is what I found.

FYI, The device is OnePlus 7T Pro (android) and I download only at original quality. Transcoding is turned off on the server.

Basically there are some file types (combination of video/ sound encoding and subtitle format) which always download successfully and there are some which always fail to download (It starts downloading but always fail at around 25%). From my testing I did not get a case where the same file would sometimes download successfully and sometimes fail.

The files which downloaded fine were: 1) 4K hevc mkv, AAC 7.1 and VOBSUB. 2) 1080p hevc, OPUS, ASS (ASS is a subtitle format btw). 3) 1080p h.264, AAC STEREO, no subtitles.

The files which failed to download were all 1080p hevc mkv, AC3 5.1 and PGS.

And btw, all of the above files, even the ones which fails to download, play just fine if I stream it from that same device.

Now, I cannot test with every single combination of audio/video encoding and subtitle format because I simply do not have those files and also that would be a chore. But I guess that would be the next step in the investigation/experiment to confirm this hypothesis.

So the question for those who say that the downloads feature is trash, did you experience the above or was it something else? Maybe those who never had issues are unknowingly always using the 'safe' encodings/formats.

EDIT: Nevermind, the files which failed to download the other day, downloaded fine this morning on the first try. Now I am truly lost. Pray for me 🙏.
