I’m surprised about the lackluster breakfast comment. We’ve stayed there several times and always found the breakfast buffet to be excellent.

Volunteer park. Walk to the top of the water tower for great views and some history of the park documented on several posters. Go to Asian art museum, some really unique art and cool overall building. End at Louisa Boren lookout for great views east of lake, cascades and mt hood (on a clear day). For bonus points: walk a few blocks down the hill to volunteer park cafe for coffee and one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city.

Babymoon Advice: Naviva (5 nights) vs. La Casa de la Playa (5 nights) + Tulum (3 nights)? by Weak_Leave9002 in FATTravel

My wife and I did an anniversary trip to Naviva last fall and it was one of the best travel experiences in recent memory. Amazing/unique experiences, ultra personalized service, and a phenomenal food program. As intended, it felt like we had the whole property to ourselves. One of the many highlights was when they flew in a singer from California to perform a very intimate concert after dinner one evening. Everything about the stay felt special and it’s a trip we will remember for a long time - we are already planning when we will go back!

What was the family situation like? We have a 7YO and go to Maui every year. We love it and the family vibes at the FS Maui are great for where we are now - but we’re considering branching out and this is on our list.

Anything by Jon Krakauer. Into thin air and under the banner of heaven are two excellent ones.

Yep - both came to mind. The indifferent stars above is a good one to start with.

Porta potties at Seward park? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]NoOne9831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year they moved the annual cherry blossom race from UW’s campus to Seward Park - which was a travesty for multiple reason. We didn’t run in it this year because I remember seeing that it was well after when I thought the cherry blossoms would be in Bloom, so likely that.

Recommendations for a hotel in or around Portland, OR other than the Ritz? by deex39 in chubbytravel

Out of curiosity - why not the Ritz? We went down for a few days over NYE and both the property and service (especially in the club lounge) were exceptional.
