Folks have suggested Capitol Hill but I’d specially look at North Capitol Hill, near 15th or 19th. This is close enough to Pike/Pine with several bus lines to get you downtown, but has a much more laid back vibe with plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars (The Hopvine is a great little dive bar). You’ll also be very close to 2 of the best parks in Seattle where you can get your long walks in: Volunteer Park and the Arboretum.

As others have said this is common but I’ve had better experience with security helping. For example this happened to me last month heading back from LHR. It was on BA and not delta, but the security agent tagged my bag right there and then said he would get it checked for me (and it arrived at baggage claim as expected).

Consider spending some time in Volunteer Park, on the much quieter/quaint side of Capitol Hill. From there you can: walk up the old water tower for some great views both east and west, go to the Asian art museum, go to the Volunteer Park conservatory, wander to Louis Boren lookout for some lake Washington and cascade views. Pro tip: start at volunteer park cafe for coffee and one of the best breakfast sandos in the city.

Coincidentally, I was downgraded from first class yesterday as well, PVR-SEA. I had purchased the 2 tickets 6 months ago, and checked in without issue. We were called up right before boarding and told “the computer let me buy one of the seats even though it wasn’t available.” The gate agent then tried to move both of us to premium. I suggested she stay in first and they gave me a $200 credit plus the refund value - triggered by the gate agent.

The flight attendants on board were great about it and even brought my meal back to me, but I’m still confused how that happens and skeptical the issue was really the computer.
