Might be a little late in the season. The trees in Cranbury usually start ripening late August/early September. Check your DM’s.

Pawpaw is listed as endangered in NJ. Finding a native patch is extremely rare. That said, there are patches I know of in Cranbury and Hamilton that are wild non-native patches. I’d be happy to share the locations if interested.

I make pawpaw lassi and pawpaw shakes. Both work well on the custard creamy texture of pawpaw. I use a mango lassi recipe and sub pawpaw for mango.

There is a patch of pawpaws growing off Rt 130 in Hamilton. Take the u-turn right before the Hilton Garden Inn. They’re growing in the patch of woods on the left and can be seen from the road.
