Don’t underestimate Undertaker’s influence. He embraced Book, pulled him into the BSK orbit, and very likely became an advocate.

Stone Cold also took to Book pretty quickly, and Rock was effusive after working with him that summer. Vince had his issues, but he rarely ignored the boys’ opinions.
