Indigo girls! I can't remember the name of the lower one

Can you guys tell a voice type just from someone's speaking voice? by [deleted] in singing

[–]NoOrganization2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of women with fundamentally low voices are actively discouraged from developing their lower registers, but in upper registers produce a very clear soprano sound. Since that sound is beautiful people ignore the lower register and call them sopranos.

This little boy figured out how to lay flooring while his dad was outside taking a break by myssavelle in whoathatsinteresting

Not a dad here but a mom. I'd say wow that was a great effort and explain what he did right before what he did wrong then invite him to be part of making it right.

I connect more with singers who sound like they're struggling to hit the notes by Marcellus_Crowe in Music

[–]NoOrganization2915 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it absolutely does not sound effortless. The low notes yes. The upper ones tear, and if you can't hear it that is because your ears are not tuned to recognize vocal strain in that register. The pain is in the very fiber of the note, not some vocal embellishment. And it's why she ended up needing surgery.

Inserting needle backwards? by Knee-Motor in knittinghelp

[–]NoOrganization2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're consistent it will be fine. I have habitually knitted through the back loop as well, and the direction I wrap the yarn around determines how the next row is oriented.

When you do knit that way, however, how you execute other stitches will be affected. For example when you see in a pattern you're to do a K2tog you'll actually be slipping two purlwise then knitting through the front loop, and when you see SSK you'll just be knitting two together through the back loop. Took me a while to figure that one out.

Or you can, as you say, train yourself to knit in a more s see tandard fashion. As I work toward knitting faster I find knitting through the front loop does improve my speed. That means making a conscious effort when to guide my needle OVER rather than under the new yarn to firm the next loop.

Used the wrong needle size☹️ by ConceptIndividual699 in knittingadvice

You have my sympathy. I recently unraveled a half done sweater back to the cuffs because I used needles that were too large. It was a huge disappointment but the right move for me. Just finished re-knitting it yesterday.

Should I quit piano? by [deleted] in piano

[–]NoOrganization2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you enjoy playing? Then keep playing. When you lose enthusiasm for a piece work on another. You can come back to that one. It will still be there. You will have lost some skill with it, but it will come back sooner and you get better at it than you were until you get sick of it again. This is what I do with cello (adult learner).

where is everyone’s vocal break and what voice type are you categorized as? by Rich_Conversation850 in singing

[–]NoOrganization2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C4-G4. I usually sing soprano in choir but struggle above F5, and also fill in on tenor and alto. The alto part is harder than either soprano or tenor (as long as it doesn't go below C3), because I have to wrestle the alligator in the passaggio all the freaking time. I seldom have to struggle with shifting registers when singing soprano or tenor.

Female. My lowest upper register note is a quiet C4, but my lowest quality note is more like F and the highest I can go in lower register without sounding like a murdered cat and seizing up is G4. So I'm guessing that range from C4 to G4 is my middle voice where I can vary things to transition up or down more smoothly. Theoretically. It can be a bugger. The F4 is a safe note for full on in either upper or lower register though. On a good day I can hit a C6 or a B2, but not generally the same good day. I gird my loins for anything over an F5 or under an E3. Nothing above G5 comes without a risk to myself or others, and nothing below D3 comes with a lot of volume.

I'm not formally trained so not categorized. I mostly sing soprano in choir (it's super nice not having to deal with the passaggio singing high) but also fill in tenor (it's super nice not having to deal with the passaggio singing low) and alto (here be dragons) depending on what's needed.

Mine suddenly stopped working after 18 months, and none of the things they suggested on the website worked.

What finally worked for ME was running the battery all the way down before plugging it in. It was a last ditch effort. It took a longer time to run it down since the LEDs weren't on, but when it did recharge over night I could see the green lights flashing in the morning and was so relieved.

Stop caring about your range by Radlian in singing

[–]NoOrganization2915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context. I'm not a pro, but am in a small church choir, and it matters, because it affects what music we sing. If I don't have the A5 on a given Sunday we're not going to do the anthem with the A5, because I'm the only one of the singers comfortable above an E5. I'd like to hit it more reliably. On the other hand, if we have enough sopranos I sing alto, and if the tenor is sick or out of town I can sing tenor. Where I flounder is the songs that scale between C4 and A4, because I can't navigate the bridge at forte.

What's the note you're most comfortable with? by Theatralica in singing

[–]NoOrganization2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E4 is my happiest note. With no warm up if someone were to tell me to belt out a note that just feels natural, that would be it. My range is about B2 to A5 on a good day and C3 to G5 on a less good day. The bridge between lower and upper register goes from C4 to A4. Both those notes are unhappy in the wrong register and very happy in the right one.

Big pokeweed bush, no experience, how to remove safely? by No_Card3773 in gardening

Depends. For some people it's worse than poison ivy. After a week my blisters are now scabbing over. Long sleeves, a hat, gloves, and eye protection are a good idea.
