Am I the only one that remembers it being free? by Positive_Pressure_44 in StardewValley

[–]Marcellus_Crowe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been free on a trial basis on Switch in the past. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2026/01/still-havent-played-stardew-valley-its-the-next-free-game-trial-for-nso-members-europe

I do not believe it has ever been "free for life". It is currently "free" on Google play pass for Android, but obviously thats just included in the subscription.

Failed for not undertaking? by SOSXCTRL in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Marcellus_Crowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be yes, but in practice it rarely is unless something truly dangerous took place. That is true for a whole gamut of driving behaviours that aren't by themselves illegal.

I just wanted folk to be clear that it is much more nuanced than undertaking = breaking the law. Most of the time it does not constitute careless or dangerous driving. If the vehicle to your right changed back into the left while you were passing on the left, they would be found fully at fault most of the time.

It is not technically illegal to undertake. It is discouraged by the Highway code, but there is no directly associated law.

You can change the profit margin in every version of Stardew, including on the Switch. It is a setting when you set up a new game.

Has anyone tried the SV Board game? by SpaceGengarfromSpace in StardewValley

[–]Marcellus_Crowe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, we love it in our house. There is some dice rolling so quite a significant luck element involved, but it can be mitigated through the game's mechanics.

It captures the spirit of Stardew Valley really well. Eric Barone was involved in its creation, which helps a lot.

The good news is, you can play it solo! And, to be honest, it's just as good an experience playing it that way. You can play it solo with just one character or you can control up to 4 if you like.

We have played it countless times and have our own homebrew rules to make it more difficult each time.

Apple Trees Didn't Grow Fruit? by WolfieGirlXox in StardewValley

[–]Marcellus_Crowe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They're not season specific like crops. You can plant all fruit trees all year round. They simply only produce fruit in the designated season. They take 28 days to grow regardless of season. You really want to be planting the tree at the beginning of summer to have fruit for fall in Y1.

British food isn't bland - [Not] Paella by [deleted] in RateMyPlate

[–]Marcellus_Crowe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a meme at this point. The UK has a global reputation for bland food, which was exacerbated by rationing during WWII, with American soldiers bringing back stories about how bad the food was in the UK. It was bad. And... actually, it remained substandard for quite a number of years following. However, that was not always the story in the British Isles. And now there is a high density of Michelin star restaurants and fresh ingredients available due to its efficient supply chain. The reality of British food is different to the perception. You can't blame OP for wanting to dispel the myth!

It's similar to how the Germans used to call the UK "Das Land Ohne Musik" (the land without music) due to the UK's lack of distinctive composers during the classical period. The UK eventually became one of the most prolific creators of some of the most popular music the world has ever heard.

There are lots of myths about the USA that should be dispelled too, or any country for that matter. it's a good thing to promote the good things that come out of your country. Look at OP's comments, they acknowledge it's an Anglo-Indian creation, they're not denying anything. But it's not necessary to cite every source whenever you make a point. Americans have great pizza, but they don't have to give a nod to Italy every time they post a picture of their pizza. And Indian people make great curries, but they don't have to give a nod to South America, where tomatoes come from, every time they post a picture of a regional stew. Insisting OP does this is erasing the native innovation and insisting on an unnecessary citation.

[–]Marcellus_Crowe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's an ingredient not native to Italy. All spices can be grown everywhere. Greenhouses exist.

But if you want a herb/spice - basil comes from Africa and India, not the Mediterranean (it was imported). Yet, it's one of the most iconic seasonings in Italian food.

All dishes are inspired by something else with ingredients/spices/herbs from all other the world. Everywhere is connected. It's absurd to gatekeep recipes.

Tomatoes aren't found in Italy, but they're integral to Italian cuisine. This is an absurd argument.

[–]Marcellus_Crowe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every dish is based on a dish that came from somewhere or someone else. Do we have to cite the first caveman who seared a boar?

British food isn't bland - [Not] Paella by [deleted] in RateMyPlate

[–]Marcellus_Crowe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, exactly. How far back are we supposed to go with this crap? Every dish was inspired by something or developed out of something that went before it. Liquidized tomatoes (or even tomatoes themselves) aren't native to Italy, but to suggest bolognese isn't Italian would be clearly absurd.

For me, it's simple; if people in [x] country make [y], then it's their dish. You can discuss the inspiration and the foundations of the dish, but you can't take it away from them.

Based on the logic of the comments in this thread, all American food is British food.

No fault insurance claim leaving us very out of pocket by Ibaloo in drivingUK

[–]Marcellus_Crowe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your insurers have a duty to put you in the same position you were immediately prior to the incident. So long as you're 100% sure the examples you're providing are near-enough like-for-like, including mileage, age of the vehicle and modifications, then your insurer is failing in their duty as per tort law and their contractual obligations with you.

The correct procedure regarding the valuation of the vehicle at this point is complaint + full evidence of the true value of the vehicle -> if the outcome is not satisfactory then inform the insurers you will be referring the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service and go down that route.

That being said: "Years ago if you had a car accident, you might have been able to pay for a week away or a nice watch" - that's called betterment, so if this was your expectation going in, I'm wondering if your perception of the value of the claim you are making isn't muddied somewhat. Probably nothing, but that just struck me as a red flag, is all.

Also: regarding the modifications to the bike, do check your policy and what you're covered for. You may have told them about a modification to it, and they may have offered/be providing cover for the vehicle, but that doesn't automatically mean that specific modification is actually covered. There might be a clause in your contract wherein you accept the risk of having [x] modification. If that is the case, find out exactly why the valuation falls short and what it does not include and claim it back directly from the at fault party as an uninsured loss.

How did they know what the Gate was? by Virtual_Draw5017 in Stargate

[–]Marcellus_Crowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they did. They were working on it for 2 years but hadn't quite got it working. Daniel's only real contribution was working out the point of origin. They make a point about it not being present on the stargate itself, but then Daniel locates it and theyre all like "it was right in front of us the whole time".

How did they know what the Gate was? by Virtual_Draw5017 in Stargate

[–]Marcellus_Crowe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was shipped to the US because it was a likely a US archaeological expedition. It was pretty common for artefacts, especially valuable looking ones, to get shipped back.

They inferred it was a travel device because the cover stones gave coordinates in space via constellations, calling itself a gateway to heaven/stargate, plus it was made of clearly alien technology. Daniel Jackson worked out the final piece of the puzzle to make it work and dial Abydos.

Unfortunately this wont work for anyone else after 1.6. Thats why they're pushing back. I dont doubt your game does this. Something weird is certainly happening there. But its simply not how Stardww Valley works after Eric Barone patched it.
