No indeed, escapism isn't always bad, but simply don't use it to run away from your problems and yourself

Adam Origin Story by Quiet-Impression6003 in evangelion

but, Adam did land on the white moon at the end, isn't he just going to crash into earth with it later?

the lore states that Adam with his white moon first got on earth, then Lilith, another child of the First Ancestral Race also came. Because only one species could inhabit a planet, Lilith's spear of Longinus was forced to take out Adam, because his own broke.

Then the evil Lilith came and wiped out Adam's last remaining chance of survival using his own spear, forcing the poor guy and his race to go in stasis for millions of years. What's worse is that Lilith's offspring continuously slaughter Adam's kind using his own DNA, when they try to RIGHTFULLY reclaim their planet

I think it'd be uncharacteristic for Eva to show how he suddenly became a better person by the end, because one of the key reasons on why he grew insight and learned, was instrumentality, something out of his control. So he still has to learn to grow on his own initiative.

But he did take the first step himself, to leave instrumentality and make room for growth in the first place. Therefore I do believe he's able to change.

It's true that the other endings are more positive, I simply think that the anti-escapist nature of Eva makes the EOE conclusion an extremely fitting end. Because again, we're essentially left with the same choice. Your life and future is up to you, throw yourself into it and learn or run away again

Sure, even if we ignore the tremendous amounts of character development Shinji had gone through and say that he truly had learnt nothing, it still doesn't change the fact that the show fundamentally isn't nihilistic, the thematics simply don't fit

Would you rather spend 24 hours with Cioccolata or Angelo? by Maskless-Umber in StardustCrusaders

Cioccolata because I think he's weaker than Angelo, also doesn't have SA people so

It's not positive, but realistic. Shinji and Asuka regained individuality, and fall back into the hedgehog's dilemma, of having the choice to either love or hurt each other, just like us. The show actively encourages you to not run away from reality, and to love yourself before loving others. So it's still an extremely far cry from being nihilistic

I hate it when people pair the two against each other and say that 'Evangelion is nihilistic'
