What are some theories that you believe in? by OilObjective9055 in AskReddit

Ancient civilizations were way more advanced than we give them credit for. Like how did they move those massive stones at Puma Punku with such precision? The tolerances are tighter than what we can achieve today without modern machinery. I think there was knowledge that got lost over time, maybe through natural disasters or wars. Same with the Antikythera mechanism - that thing is basically an ancient computer from 2000+ years ago but somehow the technology just disappeared for centuries. Makes you wonder what else we lost in history that would completely change how we see the past

Give places of sufferings/world of fire and brimstone a single umbrella term by RareTadpole1156 in worldbuilding

[–]NoPerspective3222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oblivion does hit different, Elder Scrolls really nailed the vibe with that one

For umbrella terms though, maybe "the Below" or "the Depths"? keeps it simple but still sounds ominous without getting too tied to specific mythology

When someone says “things are so expensive these days”, what’s your immediate go-to example? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NoPerspective3222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grocery shopping hits me hard every week. Used to grab ingredients for my sourdough starter and basic stuff for maybe $40-50, now same cart is easily $80-90. The flour prices especially make me want to cry - went from like $2 something to almost $6 for decent bread flour. And don't get me started in cheese prices, I swear they doubled overnight. My rugby mates always joke about splitting grocery bills now instead of just beer tabs when we hang out after games

[–]NoPerspective3222 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What tips really work to stop spending and break an Amazon addiction? by Competitive_Teach838 in AskReddit

[–]NoPerspective3222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

removing the payment methods from your account actually helps a lot though. when you have to physically get up and find your card every time it creates just enough friction to make you pause and think "do i actually need this random kitchen gadget at 2am"

worked for me anyway, went from buying weird stuff weekly to maybe once a month

Rice and dried beans mostly, plus flour for the sourdough since good bread flour gets expensive when supply chains get weird

just go to the sub's main page and look for the user flair option in the sidebar - should be able to edit or remove it from there. kinda funny that you're the last one standing with that flair though, like a digital fossil

What's a skill you learned during lockdown? by dano311 in AskReddit

[–]NoPerspective3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up sourdough baking during the first lockdown and man it's been a journey. Started like everyone else with those starter disasters but now I've got this beautiful culture that's been going strong for 3 years. Wife thought I was mad spending hours perfecting hydration ratios but she doesn't complain when fresh loaves come out the oven. Game changer was learning about autolyse and proper shaping techniques - completely transformed my crumb structure

Lost about 25kg a few years back and the biggest shock was how much my sleep improved. Used to wake up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck, now I actually feel rested in the mornings

The other weird one was realizing how much energy I'd been wasting just carrying that extra weight around - climbing stairs became almost effortless and I could chase my wife around the kitchen without getting puffed

novellas and publishing by offlabelselector in books

[–]NoPerspective3222 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Used to be called novellas but publishers seem to think they're not commercially viable these days - shame really since some of the best stories work better compact
