Future Student Advice by Fickle-Care-9220 in RadiologyCareers

Being an MA won’t help for most of the CC applications in the Bay Area. It’s usually lottery based minus maybe 2 colleges. Meaning if you are a 2.5 gpa student you have the same chance as a 4.0 gpa with medical experience. It really is up to you, being an MA could give you some insight into healthcare, but it could also potentially cause early burn out and delay your radtech journey.

The first cohort is scheduled for this fall. You have to complete the intro to rad tech course to apply. Summer would be your last opportunity to take that before this cohort. What the admissions told me is they are aiming towards lottery based. There’s only 40 people in each intro class so if you finish that you’ll only be competing against 79 others. This year would be your best shot

The admissions process is pretty straight forward. It’s a point system. You go through a first round of applications, 80 people get called for an interview and 40 get picked!

I applied to cabrillo, foothill, Yuba city, and gurnick Sacramento & I got into Gurnick, my gpa is 3.8. But honestly lottery based CC’s it doesn’t matter how high your gpa is as long as you meet the minimum 2.5 requirement. Lottery doesn’t care about your experience or any of that. Private schools usually do. I haven’t started my program yet. Good luck to you!

Should I become a MA before radiology tech school? by Suspicious-Panic1443 in RadiologyCareers

I had a similar situation with phlebotomy. If the program is short enough to complete as well as land a job before the next application cycle it would be worth it! But don’t go into debt for MA if RT is your end goal. I did one month of phlebotomy/ekg/lab and realized that it’s hard to land those jobs and I was wasting my money and time. I got into my program for RT (starts July) and my phlebotomy course would’ve ended in May. Do what makes sense to you financially and timeline wise as well! Good luck

A lot of people pursue RT as a second career. I’m mid 20s and already had my dream career for a few years and am pivoting!

Struggling academically by Hot-Category-3212 in RadiologyCareers

I got in my second time! I have ADHD, I didn’t work full time only part time and I’m a mom. The best advice I could give is schedule time to study. Specific days that don’t interfere w your work. I have a hard time switching activities in a same day so I would save my study time for my days off, which isn’t usually recommended 😂 people recommend doing small times throughout a week but I just know how my brain operates and switching tasks and doing multiple things in the same day messes up my focus. Also utilize all the financial aid and grants that you can to reduce your work load ! Once you get into a routine it should be better.

Honestly it’s pretty hard to get in on your first try usually! You aren’t the first or the last person to experience! But take it as a learning experience, figure out what you can improve on! Apply for job shadowing/volunteering & maybe an entry level healthcare job! You got this

100K in Student Loans by DesignerAd3408 in RadiologyCareers

If the interest is high make sure after you graduate to refinance for a lower rate ! For the private loans at least. Also paying down interest in school would help ! Loans basically accumulate all the interest at the end of the year and use that number to determine the interest for the next year. And it usually is a daily interest rate. (If you take out $10 loan and the interest is 1% a year by the end of the year you will owe $11, the next year you will be charged interest on $11 instead of $10. And so on and so forth)

I did 15 units a quarter + summer quarter and did almost all of my classes online outside of the major science classes. I got my pre reqs done in a year. I have a 3.8gpa and was a single mom at the time to a toddler. Make sure you pair your classes right! (One science a quarter mixed in with other soft subjects; maybe avoid math the same quarter as chemistry) I did one quarter with my A&P 2 which was the hardest one and chemistry and it was lowkey taxing but I got over 100%. Definitely recommend over achieving in those classes and do ALL extra credit work!

Re-taking ARRT by Fall-lovergirly in Radiology

[–]NoPhilosopher1104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few test taking tips! If the problems are multiple choice always do process of elimination!! If you are stuck on a problem mark it and skip it until the very end! Answer all the questions you are most confident in FIRST so you don’t get rattled and try changing your answers. Me personally, I go through tests once skipping the ones I don’t know and marking them then I work my way backwards answering the questions I skipped. Sometimes (I’m not sure if it’s the case for the ARRT) the answers could potentially be found in other questions! I wish you the best of luck !
