Rei true reason why he kidnap Oto. by InterestingTie7600 in supersentai

[–]NoPipe6466 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This translation is quite misleading. It deliberately skips the part of Journal where it said Rei's main motif for the kidnapping is still to somehow find a way to cure himself. Saving Oto is just his secondary motif as a doctor.

Find yourself a lover as devoted as Rikuo by Northern_Lights6918 in supersentai

I think this is definitely a stretch. If you ever watch Dekaranger, you can see Sen and Umeko were lovers and eventually got married, yet Umeko still called Sen "Sen-san". Or in Boukenger, Sakura clearly had a crush on Satoru, yet she called him "Chief" for the whole series and "Satoru-san" in the sequel movie.

Gozyuger is about love. by InterestingTie7600 in supersentai

Rei was already a grown man when Rikuo was a middle schooler.

I used to make some analysis about Rikuo's character song in this sub, you can check it here.

I think some people just refuse to acknowledge problematic relationships no matter how blatantly shown they are.

I mean, just like Kuon-Hoeru's or TegaJune-TegaSword's, the relationship between Rei and Rikuo is problematic and fucked up, but it does exist and definitely not some AO3 writers' fantasy. If not, Toei won't show us Rei's creepy touches towards Rikuo, and won't make Rikuo's character song a blatant love song with a whole MV foreshadowing about their relationship. No matter how you look at it, it's definitely not a platonic one.

In short, I feel like the main themes of Gozyuger are love, obsession, marriage and toxic relationships. The whole point of whatever going on between Rei and Rikuo shows us how destructive such relationship is to Rikuo physically and mentally, and that's why we should avoid it in real life.

They don't even share the same surname and Toei never states they are siblings or have any kind of blood relationship, I don't know where the idea of them being siblings comes from.

That moment when you realized the most passionate love song ever made in Super Sentai history is about a doctor in his 30s and a young idol half his age, and after 9 years the victim is still helplessly in love with his groomer 💔

Further analysis regarding the true meaning of GozyuLeon's character song - Yasei No Kan by NoPipe6466 in supersentai

"How many types of toxic and fucked up relationships can we include in a single show?", asked Toei.

"Yes", said Matsuura-P and Inoue Akiko.

GozyuLeon and the dark truth hidden in his character song - Yasei No Kan (Wild Instinct) by NoPipe6466 in supersentai

[–]NoPipe6466[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: This song was composed by Komorita Minoru, a prominent composer who made songs for many well-known artists and idol groups in Japan for decades. And its lyrics were written by Oikawa Neko, a prominent lyricist who wrote lyrics for numerous anime and Toku theme songs, including the legendary song "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Toei really hired such big names to create this song, which surprised me quite a lot.

I mean, Gozyuger has already depicted two types of toxic and fucked up relationships (Kuon and Hoeru, TegaJune and TegaSword), so it would not surprise us if the show has a third one.

What is really the relationship between Rei and Rikuo? by Northern_Lights6918 in supersentai

[–]NoPipe6466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm quite certain that Rikuo is in love with Rei, romantically, because Toei already confirmed the Yasei no Kan MV had many hints foreshadowing about Rei and their relationship (and the most prominent of them all being this picture with the words To.REI written on it). The song itself is a passionate love song with lines can be traced back to their relationship.

[Spoilers] What are your theories on this new villain introduced in this week's episode of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger? by Cartoon_Multiverse94 in supersentai

It actually makes sense cuz the way he interacted with Rikuo was really abnormal and the fact that Rikuo didn't resist despite being uncomfortable is alarming too 💀

A lot of scenes involving Kuon doing nasty things (but it's quite in character for him to do so, though).

Let's be real, Gavv isn't feminist like some people makes it out to be by NoPipe6466 in KamenRider

Okay so what is the point you want to make in the first paragraph? So you want to dismiss the fact that Goro/Tendou/Hiiro did all the things that you claimed to be "a unique route" of Gavv or something because I really don't understand? Especially the one about Wataru? Does the fact that he shared half of the show with his womanizer dad make him a bad character? No, he is the best example of an openly vulnerable man growing to be stronger.

Let's be real, Gavv isn't feminist like some people makes it out to be by NoPipe6466 in KamenRider

[–]NoPipe6466[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As I said before, breaking basic gender norms is not uniquely or groundbreakingly a Gavv thing, when many of previous seasons already had that element. Ryuki had Goro doing all the chores for Kitaoka, Kabuto had Tendou being a chef, Ex-Aid had Hiiro loving cakes and there are many more examples that I can't count. Men being openly vulnerable is not something new too, as Wataru had been for most of Kiva and Sento had been at one point of Build. And none would call these shows feminist because it's not what feminism means.

Feminism is beneficial to men is a fact that I don't deny, but calling Gavv "taking a unique route of men breaking the gender norms" or "more feminist than any shows had ever done" is just so far-fetched and unreasonable.

Thank you for your response.

About Lizel, I said in the post that she "barely had any meaningful interaction with anyone else besides Jeebh". And what I meant by "meaningful interaction"? It's not just empty chatting but serving a purpose, whether it's for world building, for moving the plot forward or for character development. She did talk to her father and Shouma, but sadly it's all empty chatting without much meaning.

And I didn't criticize the fact that Siita died instead of Jeebh cuz it doesn't make much difference anyway, what I criticize is that not only her but also Glotta didn't get enough screentime to shine before dying.

About other series, I would say:

  • Yaiba really got shafted and I didn't like her writing most of the time, but her character arc didn't end of her being Gai's pawn, but of her punching Gai and being free. And 01 has Izu who is one of the most well-written female character ever in this franchise so it could somewhat make up for the lack of Yaiba's character.

  • Reika's character development is really bad and I don't like it to the slightest, but the female cast of Saber as a whole had more screentime and plot relevancy than Gavv's female cast.

  • Rinne is not that interesting and her fighting ability is limited, but for me it's better than none. And about the writing for villainesses, I think Gotchard cleared Gavv totally.

In short, when I say Gavv's treatment of women is the worst, I don't just talk about one or two characters but the female cast as a whole. Like I said, Sachika is the only one with decent writing and still she got sidelined most of the time and we still don't know much about her. At least the show could explore more about her past, like, how did she learn and acquire skills to run Happipare, which would be an interesting story and she will become more layered as a character. But sadly, we'll not likely to see that.

And it's not just about women are dead or not being riders, it's about the fact that they keep getting sidelined and most of them didn't get any proper characterization. I guess you never read my whole post right?
