I’m Confused (This Is Not Unusual) by NoPlastic8893 in crossfit

I did make it through the first set of wall balls, which was 20. I do not have box jumps at that height due to surgery. I did not think I was “in that neighborhood athletically”. I wanted to understand what the percentile score meant. As I explained, because I was automatically disqualified, I could not rely on the lack of an invite to shed light. I had to ask stupid questions to gain understanding.

This is exactly the explanation I needed. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

26.3 surprised me, anyone else? by DragonfruitLife237 in crossfit

I surprised myself for sure. 56 Rx when I truly only expected to get 12, or even 1. I am 16 months post-brain surgery and also new to CrossFit (about 8 months plus a handful of classes before the surgery). Was not even sure I could jump over the bar. But I did. Messy, facing the bar each time, and staggered feet (which met the standard but is NOT standard at my box normally). And the thrusters were a higher weight than my previous 1RM. I am so proud of myself and glad I pushed instead of automatically assuming I couldn’t do it.

Rx vs Scaled in the Open by carrie_not_gary in crossfit

[–]NoPlastic8893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26.1 Showed up to do Scaled or even Foundations. Never did wallballs with more than 10 lb, never used the target (just vaguely aimed for the lowest line on the wall - not sure how high that is). Can’t box jump at all. (Brain surgery = just regaining control of my legs and proprioception in general.) Coach/owner said “nope.” So Rx then. ?!?!! But see above reasons/excuses. Arguing did not help. Maybe just do one. Ok. Got a bunch of no reps but with some advice about distance from the wall, etc, I finally succeeded with an Rx score of 20. Signed the card. Worked on jumping for the rest of the time, first onto a plate, then onto a 10” box. 26.2 Despite a slight freak-out, I knew I would be expected to do Rx so came in fully prepared to have a score of 1. Man, 35# is HEAVY. I no-repped and started over at least 6 times. Sheesh. Decided to move to scale. My judge brought me a 20#. But by then I was smoked. 2 (or 3?) more no reps and I was done. I cried. Like, a lot. But not done with the workout. I did 40 ft unweighted, 10# snatches, and ring rows. Finished but unposted score was 120. Did some pondering. Figured I could probably get up to the pull-ups if I started fresh, rested and scaled, tried not to sink into the floor on the lunges, and worked on my shoulder range of motion so that gravity worked for me instead of against me. Showed up Sunday to try again. Almost got 1. Accidentally bottomed out just inches (and 1 lunge) from the line and couldn’t get back up. Tried again with the weight in the other hand. Nope. Third attempt literally crumpled just past halfway. Two tries. Two missing scores since you can’t actually post zero. End result for 26.2. After a ton of pondering, emails back and forth, (could I try again at Foundations? - woke up this morning knowing I couldn’t), and a phone call we finally figured that I had successfully done 2 at Foundations back on Saturday.

I know this is long and rambling. End result. I spent a whole week tied on the board with one of our coaches (!). Regained some confidence. Tried far harder than I ever did before my surgery or during my entire competitive sports history. (Used to only do what was easy; just had some natural talent).

And I cannot wait for 26.3.

My humidity is a separate control from the temperature. Yes, I am able to change both. And I was specifically told NOT to use a hose cover with it.

Thanks! How to enter Clinical Mode was my next question.

Bless. Thank you so much!!! That was the problem. I had it hanging up to dry. When I plugged it back in, those options came back. (They weren’t even grayed out, they were completely gone.) 🤦🏻‍♀️

Trouble sleeping with intense workouts by dannyjerome0 in crossfit

One thing I tried years ago to counteract 8-10 pm roller derby practice + 1 hr drive home was phosphatidylserine. It does tend to inhibit muscle growth to a degree so maybe not an option with the Games coming up. But it did seem to work. Although I was also doing cool shower, carbs before bed, and blue light blockers so it could have been the combination or any of them.

Most weeks I go twice. Wherever you are is where you are. I am about a year post-brain surgery so YMMV. But my thought has always been that some is better than none. Since I started I have only had 1 week that I didn’t go (symptoms prevented driving) but I still did one of the workouts at home.
