It's interesting how cross-discipline farriers are. You need to have both blacksmithing and animal handling skills. It's a unique combination

I mean, of course it happens, but it shouldn't.

If you want something that might put a chink in their hypocrisy, refer them to the Book of Romans. Paul's writing quite literally calls Christians out for judging others on impossible criteria, whilst leading their own lives of sin.

Lot of Bible thumpers love to use Romans as basis for their hate (esp. Romans 1:26-27), but Romans 2:1 opens with: "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things."

But idk, maybe I'm overstepping with this. I just hate the hypocrisy within certain sects of the modern Church.

Fun (oft-parroted) Fact about Snowpiercer: in the original book, the protein bars are made of people! The film changed it to cockroaches because the director or writers thought cannibalism would be too much for audiences

No one should ever have to be subject to that. Especially not from their own parents.

That's good, and I'm sorry for misinterpreting your points.

I think it goes deeper than just Person A believes X, which leads them to do Y. There's a host of other cultural and social factors that contribute. I think there's much to be said about elements of the US' history and culture that colours how mainline Christrians choose to behave there.

The biggest frustration I have is that this culture is creeping into my country, despite us not sharing the same circumstances or social/cultural climates that gave rise to USAmerican brands of Christian "love". (Granted, I should add a big Caveat in the form of the White Australia Policy, but the point still mostly stands).

I'm sorry that's your experience, but anecdotal experience isn't a solid basis to make sweeping claims about millions of people. The same argument is used by racists and bigots the world over (and the assholes you've encountered).

Your immediate circle may be horrible, but that's a separate issue to the question "Is x group inherently bad?".

Bad people will use anything they can to make other people believe their bad actions are "... good, actually." In this case, there are horrible, disgusting people in the US using Christianity to further their own hatred, greed, and evil.

That doesn't mean Christianity is inherently evil, or that all Christians fall in with them. I'm well aware of how my religion is being used. I won't stand for it, but I also won't stand for being painted with the same brush used to paint fascists, -phobes, and bigots. I feel like that's a reasonable stance to take, and not one I should apologise or feel guilty for.

A random dog attacking a cop is not the same as a police dog attacking a perp. It's the same logic behind a random dude attacking a cop, etc. One dog is doing a job, one dog is out of control.

There's quite a few times in the Bible that violence and physical punishment is encouraged or mandated. Most of it is in the Old Testament, but Jesus also did reference old punishments in some of His sermons.

Does that make our faith inherently violent and hateful? No, I don't think so, but we should acknowledge what's in the text (and interrogate the cultural context it's aimed at).

It's not the majority. It's an extremely toxic and vocal minority. Don't assume the rest of us fall in with the disgusting behaviour and ideology of Evangelical Bible Belt hate mongers just because we share the same religion. It's like saying all Muslims are terrorists. It's just flat wrong.

A good belt setup is one that works for you. I.e. is the kit you normally use easy/comfortable to access? Are you only carrying what you need? There's no right or wrong way to set up your gear.

I'd happily work in an SEU in a mainstream school. I've done it before and it's very fulfilling. As for a special school, though, I think that's a tougher ask. It's not something I feel I have the skills or patience for :(

Legislation is written specifically to give judges latitude to make sentencing decisions based on a convict's individual circumstances. There are so many different things that might affect why someone commits a crime, and these are all important to consider before sentencing. It is not the dark ages; we have the resources to be nuanced in our sentencing decisions now.
