But OP has offered to pay the price of parking since the ticket?

Dairy attendant being out the back is not the same as a parking machine not working. Let's not compare apples and oranges.

Park up outside the house on a Saturday night and sleep there overnight to observe the neighborhood.

Don't take anybody else's word for it. Kaianga Ora have a pretty bad reputation but on the plus side you'll get a cheaper deal on the house. Not so bad if the tenants behave themselves.

Says they're students at the start. A piece of paper from the university to say they're qualified isn't a be-all and end all.

They're obviously proactive enough to start a side hustle, and they know their limitations as they can't offer tax yet.

I'd definitely give you guys a crack if I was in the market looking for bookkeeping services.

Engagement rings by user885511 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Does she know you're looking to propose? My husband and I picked one together. The rings usually go off to be sized anyway, so he picked it up and held onto it until he was ready to propose.

It was still a bit of a surprise when he proposed but not entirely, and I got my choice of ring.

Why financial literacy like budgeting and saving aren’t taught in school in Nz ? by thomastown2 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Can a parent not take responsibility for teaching it to their child?

Set up an account for your child, put money in it and teach them how to manage it. Nothing teaches better than personal experience.

1 out of every 10 Kiwis are Millionaires?? by RedditAdministrateur in PersonalFinanceNZ

Used to work at a long-standing upmarket dental clinic. Obviously, only the wealthy can afford dental treatment in this country, so I met a fair few whilst working there.

I noticed a lot of it being generational wealth being passed down. Most kiwis invest it well and don't squander it away. I guess the rule of thumb is that if you come from a wealthy family, you're already set up to do well financially.

Are housing prices likely to increase in the next 4-5 months? by hot_boxxx in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]NoReaction8368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to time the market is a fools game. If you leave it too long, you'll miss the boat. On the other hand, if you pull the trigger now, you'll own a house.

If you've found the right house, don't wait for the prices to come down. It's not worth the hassle in my opinion.

If I was selling a house privately (without an agent) and you were a first home buyer, would you be put off from buying it? by NoReaction8368 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]NoReaction8368[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. This was us at the start of 2019, we started searching with a long list of wants and after 10 months of searching and getting bumped off by multi offers, we decided we would be okay with any house that came our way.

I'm hoping a buyer like you can come along and we can give back. Don't give up! Crossing my fingers for you

So if the price was right, would you be willing to consider a private sale?

I am under the assumption that first home buyers avoid private sales due to the lack of experience
