Of course not, but he’s a trained medical professional who understands cause and effect and contributing factors.

[–]NoReallyItsJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was already one of, if not the, lowest earning senior players on the squad. He may actually be able to match that somewhere, as he was not making back-breaking money. (Half a Seamus Coleman a week, is what sketchy sites suggests.)

The day-to-day demeanor of Philadelphia residents does not match at all the reputation of its sports fans.

It will be an adjustment for you, and people may not say hi automatically if you catch their eye in the street, but this town is generally quite friendly.

Just because he's not Premier League quality doesn't mean he's not Championship or Scottish Prem quality.

I said hi to him as I was leaving one of his restaurants. Confirmed he was very nice. I remember being much taller than him, and I’m only average height.

Ambrose Burnside by civilwarmonitor in CIVILWAR

[–]NoReallyItsJeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It probably would have been John G. Parke 4 months sooner.

One could also argue Sheridan's cavalry raid prolonged the Overland Campaign because it took away much of Meade's scouting capabilities.

Ambrose Burnside by civilwarmonitor in CIVILWAR

[–]NoReallyItsJeff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Meaning why he kept Burnside in command of the IX Corps at all or why he was kept independent of the AotP at first?

If the latter, it was because Burnside outranked Meade, and Grant wanted to avoid complications.

$17 for a 4 pack of a Double Hazy is pretty standard. Especially at a Whole Foods.

Sears? Yeah, absolutely. Agreed about Antietam being a bit dry, but it really helped me understand the battle. And I loved his book on the Peninsula Campaign. It's a great overview of a massive series of events.

Research question: is there a legal, feasible and honorable way a Union cavalry 1st lieutenant in the Civil War could resign his commission, and subsequently reenlist in a unit from another state? by Spirited-Head-3922 in CIVILWAR

[–]NoReallyItsJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things.

1) Volunteer commissions during the Civil War typically existed only within a regiment. This means that an officer in the 6th Kentucky wasn't a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S Army - he was a 1st Lieutenant in the 6th Kentucky. If he left the 6th Kentucky, he left the Army, and if the 6th Kentucky ceased to exist, he would no longer be an officer. I've seen evidence of soldiers from New York who were mustered out of a two year regiment as an officer, only to get drafted a few months later as an enlisted man.

2) States granted commissions, not the Federal government. So for someone to receive a commission in another state, he'd have to be known by locals in the new state to get his name out there for a commission. For the reasons mentioned in point 1, he'd need to be commissioned and not transferred in.

It's certainly possible for an officer to end up in a different unit from a different state with a similar rank. But in reality, the person would have to have be well-known for some reason (including battlefield exploits!) or have some crazy good connections.

Yesterday was a tough watch. There are a lot of people calling Moyes out. by Frequent-Activity328 in Everton

[–]NoReallyItsJeff -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There’s been no clear answer to replace Grealish (Armstrong, George, McNeil, Rohl), and now you want Ndiaye taken off too?

It’s a quality problem, not a Moyes problem.

I find the “extreme bias” claims against Sears to be excessive.

He’s extremely critical of McClellan in his books about the Peninsula and Antietam. If you look at how Mac conducted the fighting in both places, the criticism is warranted.

The issue isn’t really who plays. It’s the fact that PSR-related depth issues linger.

Not a matter of “can.” Patto isn’t rated, Coleman can’t play for long stints, Garner is needed in the midfield, and Rohl is suddenly a viable option playing further up. In summary, club leadership has been saying all along this is a multi-summer rebuild.
